Refresher: CA18DET in '77 MGB...

The purpose of this post is to determine what I can do without on this engine in terms of emmisions stuff etc.

I'm using a SDS standalone as well.

I'd also like to get rid of some of the coolant lines that are running all over the place under the intake if I can. Also vaccuum lines.

Do I need to keep the F.I.C.D and A.A.C valves?

I'll be using a catch can and probably following one of the diagrams posted in the sticky on top, don't know which one though...

Thanks guys!

You will need to eliminate: Coilpacks, crank angle sensor, anything associated with the idle control family, afm, stock wiring, coolant lines under T-body, vacuum lines under T-body, and even the relay that controls your fuel pump. I don't know which diagram you are referring to, but no diagram on NICO is going to help you install the SDS system. Good luck!

Yep, that was just a reference to the catch can stuff.

So I can pretty much ditch all that jazz huh? That's cool. I like it to be as clean and simple as possible.

Thanks Dee!

How about the air regulator (the valve thing directly under the t/b?)? stay or go?

I ditched mine, and now I wish I had kept it. (with the SDS) No offense to SDS, but their idle valve doesn't raise my idle up hardly at all. The way that I would work it would be to run it like the factory does and tie it in with the fuel pump. Where my max cold idle now is only about 1100rpm, (less when the oil is really cold) you'd be more like 13-1500 rpm, and the idle would slowly drop, unlike the SDS where the idle just drops at the setpoint.

disclaimer: I'm not talking crap on SDS, as I LOVE my SDS system, but with the cold arse crappy KS winters, starting can be a little rough. It's always started for me, but it's always a little hesitant and seems to buck some. It's only a problem in the sub 40* range.

Don't feel bad man, mine does the same thing too. It cranks perfectly, fast idles, but when it gets close to its cut-off point, it acts a little stupid. But I can put up with that all day seeing the perfromance I get as well as the flexibility.

I am in awe with the way my car performs at 15psi of boost. It's just an amazingly wicked little ride with an amazingly wicked engine that is controlled by a superb engine management system (Nothing is perfect).
