i failed my emissions earlier this year and as i'm a poor college student, i've been slowly repairing my car...since the failure, i've removed the aiv, all of it, gotten headers, cat, catback...since the whole stock exhaust had holes in it, new cap and rotor, wires, plugs, o2 sensor, new valve cover gasket, seafoamed the bastard, theirs no leaks anywhere now, the only thing that still bothers me is the infamous rattling noise from the front of the valve cover...other than that is there anything else i should do to prepare so i can pass? thanks

Loosen some of the bolts on the exhaust. the exhaust leaks will help you pass by diluiting the exhaust gases with air.

I think you've just about covered everything that could cause failure of tailpipe emissions, clogged catalytic converters, fouled plugs, old O2 sensors, etc etc can make you fail. Have you adjusted your timing along with the replacement of the plugs/wires/cap? With the goodies your'e running, i'd set the timing to 22 degrees.. just understand that premium fuel is mandatory if you up the timing (stock setting is 20, oh wait, that's for a KA24de, don't know for sure if its the same for the pignose).

I think you'll pass, if your'e worried, i'd dump some seafoam in the fuel tank before you go to the inspection lane.

Also, the rattling coming from the front of the valvecover is your timing chain, that won't effect emissions. But you should get that looked at REAL soon. It may just be the upper timing chain guide had broken off (which is supposedly a useless piece and can be removed) otherwise if you let it go on for too long the guides will break off and kill your engine.

What was wrong the first time you failed the inspection?

If you failed because of your N0x, but your HC and C0 were alright, then it shows that your cat is probably good, but your egr might not be functioning properly. That's the case for me, so I have to go in and fix it.

Check your old spark plugs. They'll inform you of leaky injectors. Do you still have your emissions crap intact?

Hide an air freshener in your muffler.I've never had to pass emissions in either VA Beach or here, thank god...
