Am I missing something or is OP trying to get 300hp at crank via basic bolt ons?

intake +5
Exhaust + 7
Headers + 10
Y pipe + 10? (Don't know much about em)

Stock Engine = 270 crank

Don't all those bolt-ons add up to 302hp at the crank, or am I adding things incorrectly?

Racingline has dyno graphs showing 13whp with their ypipe so one could assume the crank horse power would be a little more than 13... As for the rest, a good intake can make up to around 10 or so, exhaust can be the same or better depending on the build. Headers don't count since there are none for the 3.5...

One thing people aren't considering here regarding Importroller's build is that he has a 6MT which has less drive train loss than most here who have CVT's, not to mention the weight difference so he already had a big advantage over those when it comes to bolt ons and tuning. The only way a CVT would see 300whp+ in a naturally aspirated state is off of all bolt on's you can buy, custom headers and a serious tune and MAYBE. Even then I don't know and would say some engine work might be in order but then you're getting into the high dollar range that you may as well spend on boosting the car.

You arent gonna get that from those parts...its not as simple as taking what the manufacturer claims that the part adds and then adding them together.
You have to think about how they all work together. Not being a d!ck just letting you know.

Gotcha. I was trying to be conservative on the numbers. Totally forgot there aren't headers for 3.5's

Haha no offense taken. I would imagine that the dyno sheets and claims they make are based off of a stock car with the only performance mod being the part they're advertising the power gains from. Or at least thats how it SHOULD work (meaning the numbers are based on the benefits of having that mod and that mod exclusively). But I know it doesn't always work that way and that companies lie about gains and dyno sheets.

That is exactly right, they are based off a stock car with their product, but once u start adding them on top of each other they eventually dont do s*** lol

I can see your point here. The first mod will have a significant gain, but as you add more on top of, the overall affect won't be as much. Example

Intake could give you 10+ by itself, BUT, a intake on something that already has every possible bolt HP upgrade, may only give and additional 2+ hp?
So in all theory
Y-pipe +12
+ exhaust +6
+ intake +4
+ BDS tune +2
total in theory +24 at crank

So compounding bolt ons on top of each other won't have the affect as the manufacture claims. because they do thier testing just like coupecrazy is saying.

There is a local place that can do dyno pulls. but last time I checked, they want $100 minimum per session. Something to think about.

And Im glad this thread is starting to get back on track.
I won't do the exhaust till after I move. But I will get the intake done soon. I would do exhaust now, but the movers are already going to hate me. Don't want to add MORE car parts needing to get packed up.

Honestly, most all of this is just guess work regarding the "crank hp"... So how about we look at some real world examples or "head to head" comparisons that I have actually done, see vids below...

Basically Stock(exhaust only) vs All n/a mods you can buy:

Showing more "high end mph" head to head:

I am personally skeptical of manufacturer dyno numbers. It is in their favor to get the largest improvement with their mod. But you can get a difference of 10hp on a stock car without any mods, by doing a baseline warm run in the heat of the afternoon and a second cold run at night.

Ways the dyno can be cheated: http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0402t ... index.html
