GET IT NOW.

This is one of those games EVERY gamer should experience. It was the first-ever survival-horror game. Resident Evil gets all the credit, but it was really just an Alone in the Dark clone for consoles. The final "boss" fight in AitD is one of the most memorable videogame experiences of my youth.

AitD has a Lovecraftian feel to it, and the low-quality visuals manage to deliver a lot more atmosphere than many modern games.

It's brilliant. Everyone should play it. Watch out behind you.

I remember buying that game when it came out and never figuring out how to get it to play on my dad's computer...

This MoD?

I can't take it seriously, the girls face scares me 100% more than the "monsters". Also you're given a weapon... Amnesia is where it's at.

Yes, that. You've got to realize that was a VERY early 3D game. It came out in 1992. And you can also play as a guy, which gets rid of the Evil Clown Lipstick Factor.

Amnesia is bloody brilliant, but AITD is worth a look, too, especially if you're a Lovecraft fan.

I echo the sentiments about AitD. I got it for PC in 1994 and played the snot out of it. It *is* a Lovecraftian story and, along with "Seventh Guest", "Nocturne", "Doom 3", and "Dead Space" comprise my top 5 scariest games of all time list.
