I'm prospecting for a new suspension setup. The Godspeed 16-way adjustable coilover kit has an excellent price tag for its features. Wanted to know if anyone has experience with this product and if it would be a smart buy. I've also looked at Tein's basic coilover setup, its about $100 more, but not as adjustable as the Godspeed product.

Godspeed recommended or not?!?!

That is the engine that sits under the hood. The suspension is responsible for putting that power to the ground...

I respect the members who post on the CA forum, and its their input I would like to hear.

Godspeed = cheap. "Good" and "Bad" are relative terms, compared to what?

You get what you pay for, I wouldn't buy them...

KTS coilovers from SPL are pretty ballin. they're probably one of the cheapest coilovers that wouldn't be put in the megan, ebay, etc category. (not knocking megans just going from what i hear). Tien's too maybe, haven't heard much great but not much bad either, and they seem to have a wide variety for different prices.

i just saw godspeeds on ebay for < $600.

i know it is nice to think you have found the one set of cheap performance coilovers but be realistic, coilovers for 600 dollars? yea right.

in all honesty its your money do as you please, but first hit the search button or read the faqs on suspension set up, basically they tell that unless you plan on tracking the car you dont need coilovers, and the cheep ones rust BTW. after those rust shut youre boned proper.if you get coilovers make sure the spring rates are in harmony with your dampning rates, otherwise youll look like a bobblehead on wavy higways, ittl be amusing to everyone but you.take it from me wrong set up coilovers suck.and hurt moms spine.ive had tein lowering springs and kyb gr2 ithink shocks and theyre stiffer than stock but still drivable, and i drive on detroit streets and backroads, buy tires instead, cheep lowering srings and shocks and tires and you will look sweeter and handle better than most riced civic on coilovers.this turned out too long (all of it) ^

the tanabe Sustec S-OC type II are also very reasonably priced. I will pick up some of those or tein basics very soon here(50 bucks difference in price btw).

btw, if you are looking to go cheap, spring+strut package mentioned above + godspeed sways is always a decent setup.

I cant see going cheap on tires......... no reason I could justify it. I would sooner walk then drive on cheap tires.

ya i've been there too. once i had 4 different tires on all wheels! all $25 used tires too haha. I was broke and had the mindset the anything will work, which it did.

as for busted's comment about coordinating rates, when you get coilovers from a good company don't you think they will have engineering and thought out the proper rates? They sell them together as one unit so i doubt they'd give you a setup that you need to change something.

I spent some time reading through the Brake/Suspension forum, from the regulars that post there, they have yet to find any member who used the Godspeed coilover setup.

I've decided not to go with the Godspeed setup since I don't intend to autoX on any regular basis. I just want a better than stock replacement, with a lower more aggressive stance.

Decided on KYB GR2 Struts fitted with Eibach Sportline Springs 4.1063 (lowers 2.2 front, 2.1 rear) Found everything on egay for $410 Since I'm saving a couple $100 I was planning for a coilover setup, I prospected for a set of tires. Found 205/60VR15 Kumho Ecsta ASX for $243 delivered on tirerack.

Thanks for the replies!

I would spend a little extra and get the AGX struts. A little stiffer, but would be better for that amount of drop. The GR2s are basically a stock replacement. I wouldn't wanna go that low on them.

what i hate bout buying tires from tirerack is getting them mounted. shops usually charge a bit since you didn't buy from them.

did you get any kind of mounting deal?

DO NOT use the GR2's with the sportlines. You'll blow them. The AGX's can BARELY handle the sportlines, and you'll have to keep them turned up to full hard.

Float, would the eibach pro kit springs be a better choice (1.8 drop in front, 1.6 rear) I plan on using stock 15" rims, with 205/60r tires. Would this allow me to take advantage of the adjustable strut?

I'll be sure to take before after pics. The car currently sits so high in the air like a monster truck... come to think of it, is so high all the bugs get sucked under the car.

jt, mounting not an issue, my landlord owns a garage, he'll mount and balance for $10 a wheel.

I know you asked float, but yeah they wouldn't be so hard on the struts. The lower the car the more stress

This is from the suspension FAQ

EIBACH PROKITSpring Rate - F : 1.84~1.92kg/mmSpring Rate - R : 2.3~2.4kg/mmRide Height - F : -1.8" (eibach site) -1" (jnm240 test)Ride Height - R : -1.6" (eibach site) -.75" (test)

EIBACH SPORTLINESpring Rate - F : 1.92~2.0kg/mmSpring Rate - R : 2.4~2.5kg/mmRide Height - F : -2.2" / -1.75" (test)Ride Height - R : -2.1" / -1.75" (test)

Just a hair stiffer, which you probably wouldn't notice, but better handling too

please please please! do not go with a strut/spring combo. gay and gay.

coilovers are totally where its at! just save up for a couple of more weeks and get some megans. there good for the price.

and whatever you do, make sure you get coilovers with dampening adjustment. you'll hate not being able to tighten your shizz up when you want to.

Yes the pro-kit/KYG setup would be better.

I'll do a little more research before I buy. Thanks for all the help.

Hey Float, could you move this thread to the correct top brakes/suspension. I may get a few more responses in the section of the forums.

Umm, ive been using Sportlines and KYB GR2s for about 5 years now and havent had a single problem.

Now to clarify Eibach's lowering on S13s (i have installed both and measured the before and after)

Pro Kits are ADVERTISED at 1.75 (or 1.8, depends on where you see it), but it is actually a 1" drop from stock.Sportlines are advertised at 2.2" drop, but are actually 1.75" drop.H&R springs are advertised at 1.25" drop and are really a 1.25" drop.

Ive had all 3. First the H&Rs, then wanted to go lower, so i bought the Pro Kit based on their advertised drop of 1.75", but sent them back to Eibach with measurements because my car actually went UP 1/4". And i was sooo pissed because i had to go back to Eibach to get the Sportlines. No one else has a spring that low.

Interesting. Maybe the Tein S-tech then. 1.7 front and 1.2 rear advertised. I've seen plenty of before and after and it looks accurate.

I had at least 2 friends that blew their GR2's on sportlines.

I had sportlines and AGX's for a cpuple of years with out any problems, but you'll HAVE to trim the bump stops, which can be scary.

Safe to say using the Pro Kits would be a bolt on affair with no trimming?

I'm going to stay away from the megan stuff. Too many people are selling their megans so I'm going to take that has a sign and stay away. I'll keep searching around, and see what will be worth the squeeze.
