So on my way to work I smell the gas smell again, not cool I've been racking my brain for weeks trying to figgure out what is wrong with that stupid fuel rail. So I quickly pull over in a parking lot to check out how much its leaking, beacuse this time the smell is really potent, and smells like alot of fuel is leaking out, where in the past it wasn't really that much and the leak stoped right after it started. As soon as I open my hood I see a stream of gas shooting from the Fuel filter, I'm thinking wtf now I've got 2 leaks, just my luck right? wrong, The fuel filter was the prob the whole time since I replaced the o-ring on the injector, it had a crack in it and a stream of gas was just spraying on the fuel rail, so that once the leak stopped, it would look like it was my fuel rail that was leaking, when in reality it was the fuel filter all along. Long story short after work I'm getting a 300zx fuel filter and praying that this is the end of the fuel leak, if this don't fix it I'm going to go nutz, althought today I did see it spray from the filter to the rail perfectly witch kinda made me chuckle a lil bit cuz right then a light bulb went on and I was like ohhh thats what was leaking, duh.

haha, i love his avatar!

good thing you found the leak before something caught fire.

orion, how often do fuel lines need to be replaced? When I was splicing my fuel line under the hood to accomodate my wet nitrous setup, the lines there seemed strong and flexible still. My lines back at the fuel tank look like they are starting to dry rot. I know the lines by the tank are exposed to much more weather than the underhood lines, but is there a general time when they should be replaced? thanks

yeah they were replaced when I went turbo, so there newer, but my guess as to why the leak came and went is that from a cold start there wasn't a seal in the crack but as it heated up it sealed itself because from a hot start there was no sign of a leak and thats the only thing I can figgure out, I'm just waiting for the car to cool down and then I'm replacing the filter, its at 78,xxx miles so it was a good idea anyways and cheep insureance cuz I had a filter clog on my moms caddy and shot the fuel pump witch led to the starter burning out (after 5 tries for 2 seconds each) with a total of $1800 in damages, so 11bux don't seem that bad. BTW that caddy mess drained my 240 fund so no built motor this summer and I hate humid weather
