So my luck with cars has been less than stellar this year. (See also: doom) So we bought the wife the Mazda2 and I decided to wait on getting a car. I was talking with SX Moneypit, and he offered to sell me his wife's Z31.

It's a 1987 2+2 Non-Turbo Auto. While that is not the most exciting combination in history, it is in exceptional condition. Like any 26 year old cars it has a couple issues, but far less than you would expect. It's got 150k miles on it, and the VG runs like a champ. I think it would be hard to find an un-restored Z31 in better shape. She turns heads everywhere we go. I took it to Autozone to buy wax the day I bought it and the clerk tried to buy it from me.

And now for the good part. Pics.

Sweet. I was looking for one of those about 3 years ago, I wish I'd have found one in as good condition as you apparently have...

The turbo version isn't really that great anyway, but the little bits can be taken off the other motor and swapped over relatively easily if so desired.
This makes me miss my VG S12... :(

Thanks for all the positive feedback.

I love driving this car. On days where I have nowhere to go I find myself just going out to drive it anyways. I can't for the life of me figure out why people complain about the Z31. I've owned a Z32 and a Z33 (briefly) and while I can agree that both of those are better cars, the Z31 is still a fantastic car. It drives very much like an S13 with a V6. It's gorgeous (to me). While it lacks modern styling, it has that classic sports car look nailed.

The engine is fantastic, although I can clearly tell why the VG30 went twin cam and dual intake. It requires VERY heavy throttle to get it up and moving, and if you let the transmission shift for you, you'll never find the power band. I'd like to see what this engine could do with a manual, but if I go that far as to swap the transmission I'd want to put a VQ in it. But this car is just too clean to resto mod. I'd like to find a 2nd Z31 and a totaled Z33 and make myself a classic looking monster. Thank god for giving me a wife that supports my dream of buying a house with a big garage so I can build a fabrication shop. :chuckle:

As it stands now, I'm fixing the power steering leak, looking for a new drivers window switch, and changing the tires. Other than that, the car is mechanically perfect. I just removed the factory speakers and replaced them with a set of Kenwoods. I wanted a better stereo , but I refuse to fill my trunk with amps and speakers. I settled on a set of 3 way fronts and a woofer / tweeter for the rear. I wanted a set of speakers that would give me a good sound, and be totally hidden. When I took the door off, I found the factory speakers were so worn that the surround was completely disintegrated. I was impressed to find 2 way speakers up front in an 87, but I shouldn't have been, after all, this is a Z. :dblthumb:

That thing is cleaner than a semiconductor plant! The paint looks AMAZING in those photos. Not a scratch on the wheels, either.

Truth be told, it was love at first sight. I actually showed up to look at buying another of his cars, and he arrived in the Z. I couldn't take my eyes off it. When he mentioned he was thinking about selling it as well, I had to have it.
