You're right. YOU are not. I, however, am. All you need to do is direct them to the Online Mechanic. I'll deal with it from there.

On another note. Allen, I see you asking quite a few questions yourself. If you don't feel the need to help another NICOnaut, then maybe other people won't feel the need to help you. So, if you have a problem and feel the need to post in NOM, maybe you should just go cry to your mama.

Exactly.

That might not be what you're here for. But it is EXACTLY why a lot of us are here. Discouraging people from seeking help isn't exactly helping anyone. We're here to lend what advice we can. And of course it's free! Information should always be free.

i guess we should draw a map to you...i wrote i don't mind helping out, just don't like when people show up, get what they think they need and disappear. btw i think i've posted more answers than questions.

and i don't try to discourage anyone from anything, just would like to see more input from people that came here for the same reason as me - to learn, swap ideas and brag a little about achievements.

...and the term NICOnaut?

all in all i hate bashing people because i think there's no stupid Q's, A's or ideas. that's why i'm here not on "the other" org. just think it's not hard to type something in the search box...

NICOnaut is a term that's been around for years.

I understand your point (and did miss it the first time) but still can't say I completely agree.YES, I would LOVE to see people stick around and contribute to our great community. But We're not JUST a community or a help site. We're both. Forums aren't for everyone, and there's no reason people should be obligated to stick around when it's just not their "thing."

I don't disagree with your asking people to give something back to the community that helped them, though.

It's just what we call ourselves as NICO members. Probably, the reason you guys haven't seen it much is because you don't venture out of the Max forum much (not that that's a bad thing).

Minister of Doom is right.

Forums aren't for everyone. I joined NICO after about a month of reading it and searching to try find some answers. I couldn't find the exact answer I needed so I joined up and asked. Then I got those answers! HOORAY

But I enjoy the forum (Maxima and others) and try help out and give ideas where I can.

I read a thread a while ago bashing the noobs and someone said something along the lines of "NICO helped me understand my maxima and build into what it is today"

Give the noobs a chance to do this too so they can pass on information again when they hopefully stick around on this awesome site!

Thats my 2 cents.

that was me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes i have an afro!)

the thread started off a little curt, but i wasn't bashing when i said that. I was trying to explain that i was new when I came on, didn't know a lot about my Maxima, and thanks to NNNIIIICCCOOOOO(with an awesome echo) I was able to ask all the questions I needed to help me build the Maxima. Without NICO shadetree mechanics don't really have a good NISSAN connection to start with that has oodles of knowledge

wow! i just had a crappy day when i summed up all the stuff i have to work on on my max and "go cry to your mama" was sarcastic since i mentioned some of the work ahead of me...crying to you all since, like i said, my mama knows nothing about cars

but seriously, being a part of community is a give and take thing and i like being a NICOnaut even though lately i'm thinking about selling my car because...i have yet another problem

Agreed, without the forum and great people to help I'd probably just have wheels and a cool stereo...and had gotten ripped off on both!!! I even saved $6000 off the sticker on our new minivan because I read, asked questions and learned!!! FTW

You guys need to realize too that some people will not have the knowledge or ability to provide answers to people's questions. There will be people that will know most everything and rarely ask questions. There will be some who ask about as many questions as they answer. And there will be others who will just be looking for someone to help them out. If you don't enjoy giving out your knowledge for free then don't. I don't have a lot of answers about my car, but when someone asks a question that I do know something about I like to try to help. Everyone is going to put a different amounts of knowledge into this forum and get something different out of it.

The ones who ask questions without doing any FAQ reading and forum searching are a different story...

We've all been noobies at one point or another. I have no problem admitting I didn't know much about imports when I got my Max 6+ years ago. I read, searched, googled, and taught myself what I needed to know along the way.

What it comes down to is the people. I've never met a greater group of people than the ones I've met through NICO. Offering each other advice, encouragement, and constructive criticism in a civilized manner is what has made this forum grow. I'm sure we've all seen examples of other forums where people are flamed over the most trivial of things. That's why I came here, and that's why I'm still here.

Some of us are just ACCLIMATING to this community. I'd sure like to be a regular here, but my graphics card/gaming/PC problems outnumber my car issues at the moment... :p

When I was a fan of the Chevy Lumina, I posted at w-body.org or whatever it was... and now being a member here (with two maximas to boot!) I've found this place to be quite informative through both searches and through the threads I've started.

Three cheers (or beers) for the NICOnauts! :p
