It's a shame a good supercharger kit has not come up yet for the 240SX. There is enough space and many alternatives; heck! if a Miata can be supercharged our's should be a breeze.

Thinking about this, I say go with a Powerdyne or Z-Engineering. Z-Engineering is german made (expensive to ship), a kind of combo between a Powerdyne and a Vortech. The thing is that both are belt driven, so no oil lines involved, just the blower and bracket; I would prefer Powerdyne because the belt is covered and less prone to damage; and much less expensive.

In the case of Z-Engineering I read something interesting. They did a kit for a Miata in which, besides the blower, air tubing and bypass valve, only the bracket to reposition and locate things was used. Of course, a custom chip was replaced in the computer for performance; but the thing is that this chip made use of the stock fuel pump, injectors, ignition-coil, etc. They just contoured the mapping for the blower.

And something weird, the air filter was positioned directly over the header, so obviously a lot of hot air is going. Even so, the setup gave 72-88hp (different configs) more to the engine; I suppose more should come out of ours.

So, I'm thinking, our engine is better and more powerful than the Miata's. Probably the only thing needed is to install a Powerdyne blower properly and re-map the stock chip or go to, say, Jim Wolf's shop and adjust the chip he already sells for the 240SX.

This kind of mod and testing is difficult to do here in Puerto Rico, it would involve more money than for someone near the chip shop and cheaper to get a Powerdyne.

Does this sounds sane enough for some of you to try? Would you do it? Someone do it!

Julio i think u can take ur ideas and talk to Rafael Roldan (felo racing) or even Ivan(ivan rabitt racing) or u might even ask Gorge Lazcano.. i know they might be able to aid u on ur quest as i used to hang out with them when i lived in Pnce PR.. i used to work with Cesar Febus..he had a monte carlo twin turbo .. now has a 87' 300zx running 7:8 as i recall but yeah ..i think they can come up with some thing and even use a haltech computer or electromotive as thats what they use normally...so yeah i dont think there isnt anyone capable.. there are many tunners in PR... especially in the east cost of the island...u'll nedd some hard cash tho' but u'll know that ur have one fast car

Cesar Febus is the man right now....I love that his car....I don't want to jack the thread, but does he have a VG30ET in the Z?? Or a DETT?

Said it once ill say it again , someone needs to adapt the Mucolch (sp?) centrifical blower from the old studebaker golden hawk , had a variable ratio pulley , probably has tons of potential .....

i just talked to Cesar Febus cuase i might be going back home to Puerto rico a couple of Days .. we talked about his car a stuff he is running a VG30DETT single turbo conversion..i think the motor was pulled out of a 93' 300zx.. and his best time to date is 7:63..and Gorge Lazcano has run a best time of 7:30 they are both identical motors .. but Lazcanos running a bit more boost and is a 95 300zx tubed chassis.. they are both sweet *** cars ...

The supercharger is a Mc Culloch, remarkable unit, I didn't know something like that existed. A direct drive centrifugal supercharger with variable diameter pulley, very ingenious.

You know, someone should think about doing something like that to a modern supercharger. Not variable pulley, but something that would automatically make it turn faster at low RPMs, like automatic gearing.

This is a very interesting unit, but I think it's on the large side, could be hard to fit it in the 240SX bay. But certainly a great mod in those days.

Wow, continuing the Mc Culloch thread, the VR57 unit used a planetary gear setup to control spins. Man that was incredible, still a large unit, but extremely well thought.

Someone should do something like that with modern chargers.

check http://www.vs57.com for info on the McCulloch superchargers. This is the same McCulloch that makes chainsaws. Apparently the supercharger division became Paxton (his name was Robert Paxton McCulloch).

If so, Paxton don't seem to use the variable speed technology in any of their units. Or yes?

i guess they ditched the idea, i think the materials available at the time weren't good enough for a truly reliable setup. They were relatively heavy, also.

I saw at Jackson Racing that their medium Eaton Supercharger was used in a Miata. The configuration was similar to the Z-Engineering kit, the charger goes over the exhaust side and no other special mods were needed to obtain a 40% increase in horsepower.

This is yet another option to supercharge the 240SX, probably easier with a header, more space available.

Somebody do it!
