I have always said it, spelling is just something stupid people memorize to feel smart.

My IQ is unaffected by your assessment - Some of us are smart AND took the time to learn to spell... it's part of effective communication.

GM cut its marketing budget dramatically, even before it got bailed out. They probably outsource banner production to a kid in Africa with a crank-powered netbook.

Intelligence and common sense are complimentary. If you're smart but can't be bothered to spell correctly, I assume you can't be bothered to put your intelligence to good use, either.

Plus, correct spelling is NOT about memorization. It's about understanding how the english language works. You don't memorize the spelling of every word. You simply know how spelling works, and therefore know how to spell.
