Ok, a 'told you so' moment for me. I searched for months for a gauge set that would match the rest of my gauges, black backgound, white lettering and red needles. I have a set of Clark Bros heavy duty gauges but they don't match each other...worst yet, the oil temp gauge sender is on intergalatic backorder. Seriously I ordered the sender 8/23/2009 and it's been on back order ever since. I thought I would buck the system and try Glowshifts gauges because according to the website the gauges have a white letters/red needles setting. I took the lure and ordered up black 7-color oil psi, vac and oil temp gauges.

They look sweet except the white isn't white on all 3 gauges. Only the vac gauge is pure white, the others have a blue tint to their whites. So to remedy that I settled on running all of them in red. Not my choice, my only non-annoying option basically. With the LED 194 bulbs I recently installed in my dash cluster and heater control box the interior is simply amazing to drive at night to.

First my oil temp gauge failed by changing colors at random times to blue, the button wouldn't let you change colors either. Glowshift replaced it under warranty which is good business. Yesterday I am driving home and notice my oil psi gauge hanging around 20psi while cruising at 65mph in 5th gear, usually between 2500-3000rpm. New oil pump last year holds 60psi at 2500rpm when the oil is warm all day. I FREAKED!!! Pulled over check things over, not so much as a rocker arm tap. Restarted the engine and now notice the gauge is sitting where it should be, about 19-20 @ idle. Rev up the engine and the gauge follows suit.

So I start driving back up to highway speeds only to note the gauge dropping again but this time it jumped back to normal pressure then back down to near zero. Damn sender has s*** the bed. I talked myself into tearing everything apart this 4 day vacation weekend and swapping the gauge to that really nice Clark Brothers Inc. gauge I spoke of earlier.

I don't feel safe running Glowshift products on my truck which is just a DD. Looking back, the wiring these gauges are built with is very cheesy and of a very small and not so common size. Forget using good quality size wire gauges, plan on using some pretty skinny stuff. Another thing that bothers me is the fact that the senders don't ground through their casing to the block, they require separate ground wires to be run which IMO is a huge pain in the a**. They give you a wierd size female bullet connect to work with of which I have been unable to find the male half anywhere, neither Fastenal nor Grangers carry anything that worked with what Glowshift provides. This forced me to cut and splice the wires from the sender to the gauge wiring. The terminals are laughable anyways so splicing is doing yourself a favor.

I know, I got what I deserved for trying to gets looks and function, function is an after- thought with this company. I will admit that Glowshift itself is good about taking care of their products after the sale but at this fail rate I am going to step away and sink some money into some wayyyy better gauges, gauges I can trust to not fail so rapidly and frequently. I am going to pursue the CBI route one more time.

Question: Who makes a good oil filter sandwich plate?

Hate to say this but always always stick with the big named guys who have been around for yrs. Go to summit and order real gauges and I will bet a months pay you never have those problems. A lot of these new unknown companies use china crap and this is what happens. I have been through this type of mess myself so I feel your pain. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Get some name brand gauges and I bet it all works fine for a long time.

Clark Bros is really nice stuff. They make gauges for military vehicles so I trust they make good car gauges. Glowshift=no good. And yes, everyone can say 'I told you so!'.
