I have a 97 Nissan Pickup with a 2400. I can drive the truck for about 30 to 45 mins and it as if it goes in to limp mode. I can get out and see the manifold is glowing red and when this happens it loses acceleration. I've checked the timing and I've also disconnected the catalytic converter and it still doesn't change anything. What could be making it run lean to turn the manifold red and it to lose acceleration?

Well, I think something could be up with an emissions system. EGR comes to mind. Sure it injects hot air into the intake, but that actually cools down the engine operating temps. Your engine is running hot it seems. So maybe EGR isn't working properly. Could be thermal protection causing the engine to die out. There are temp sensors that the computer uses for operation. One sensor goes to your temp gauge and the other sensor goes to the ECU. That could be an issue. Your MAF, TPS and O2 sensors will affect the AFR and that can have the engine run lean which would be hot.

You have a '97. I suggest getting an OBD-II scanner on there and checking for codes. I don't think you should push the truck too much. You could end up making something worse. Baby it until it's fixed.

I agree with Centralcoaster baby that engine. Manifolds that hot could burn a valve. I would check for codes and check your tail pipe. You stated the catalytic converter was disconnected. Was it replaced with a pipe if so what about the mufflers. Baffles in the muffler might cause a restriction. Did this issue slowly get worse or did it just started all at once. And did the first time set off the check engine light. The 30 to 45 mins of drive time is that highway or street heavy traffic etc.
