Searching the archives I saw that another member had a glovebox hinge repair a few years ago but I think I've built a better mousetrap here. Read on.
Tools you will need: Phillips screwdriver, pliers
Now that I've saved a 90Q from the graveyard and am bringing it back to life I'm feeling empathy for you poor b@stards that have had to put up with broken plastic hinge(s) on your heavy gloveboxes. Not only are the hinges a poor design but you can add the strings that hold the glove box up to the list of early Infiniti design failures. I've come up with a very simple $3 fix.
I went to Ace Hardware and bought this decorative brass hinge. It's 3/4" wide X 2 3/4" long. The long leg of the hinge is 1 3/4" long which is the same as the OEM plastic hinge. What's needed to make the brass hinge fit is to simply bend the short leg at a 90 degree angle about 1/4" from the hinge pin as shown in the pic. Brass bends easily, a pair of pliers will work fine.
Here's what a working hinge looks like. To make the brass hinge fit you'll need to snap off the protruding broken plastic legs on the back of the glovebox. Break the legs off with a pair of pliers as close to the glovebox body as possible.
You'll only need to remove a few of the screws on the backside of the glovebox to separate the two main pieces of the assembly enough to get the brass hinge in. Test fit the angle of the hinge until it fits properly. You may need to bend it a bit to line up the screw hole and to get the hinge height the same as the other hinge. There's a metal plate built into the glovebox so the hinge is held firmly in place. The existing square hole in the brass hinge lines up with the mounting hole in the chassis. Simple fix.
