Which key are you trying to unlock it with?

The master or one of the valet keys?

The valet key shouldn't work without cutting a groove down the length of the key on both sides.

If you're that worried about it hide a rattlesnake in there with your stuff. Just don't forget he's in there.

Lol.

Question about keys.

My Q has 3. One for the ignition, one for the doors, glovebox, and trunk, and one little key that I have yet to figure out it's use.

I don't like having separate keys for the ignition and door locks. That sucks.

But really, what is the midget key for?

They're all Infiniti keys and whatnot.

Sounds like your ignition switch was replaced at some point (lots of them were due to being hard to turn) and then never rekeyed to your doors. The car came with only one key. Sounds like the thrid one may be your valet key - which would only start the car and unlock the doors??

A good locksmith can rekey your cylinders to match your ignition switch for about $30-40 each. When the dealership replaced my ignition switch on my old Q, they were going to have the switch rekeyed to the old key and give me aftermarket keys, so that they wouldn't have to replace the door locks, trunk lock, glove box lock, etc. I told them not to worry about it and had the driver's side lock rekeyed myself. I wanted the $100ea titanium keys! I always unlocked my doors and trunk remotely anyway with my alarm. I just wanted one door lock keyed to my door key incase my remote battery went dead.
