Glove box carpet removal--has anyone removed the old glue completely?

I ripped the carpet off mine and went to 3 upholstery shops. All of them said the old glue and under material is fused into the plastic.I tried Goo Gone, Goo Gone Extreme, Goof Off, scalding hot water, paint thinner.

Did anyone ever get that stuff of of their plastic glove box?

Chances are, the upholstery shops are right. Three different ones, and you still believe it can come off?

I sanded it off. It looked like sh1t. Vinyl worked well.

i couldnt get mine off. i eventually sanded the hell out of it, put some bondo in it to smooth it out, then i painted it and it looks decent.

why not just re upholster it........ it isnt rocket science and you can make it look as good as you want to

i have burberry fabric to go on my glovebox and door panels. i just havent had time to do it.

I asked 2 upholstery shops to reupholster it & they said they wouldn't do it. I might do it myself as I can't get the old junk off of it.

OMG I love burberry. LV isnt my favorite, but was the best I could find.

F & F painted an Acura with YSL logos in the movie. That is another option. I'm going to use plain fabric for myself

I had absolutely *no* experience with upholstery and mine came out pretty decent.

'Used a black vinyl from a local discount fabric shop. No not all of the glue came off, but it doesn't matter. Just sand it semi-smooth so the glue lines don't show through. The vinyl will help in this regard.

Cut the vinyl into a rough shape with about and inch to spare on the back. Take a can of 3M extra-tac spray adhesive and spay *just* the front surface. Continuously press and smooth the vinyl until it's set up enough to stay itself. After it fully cures come back and do the sides/corners. Snip the backside edges to make it around the corners better. You can apply a little heat (though i didn't need it) to help stretch it. Use more glue on the back. Try not to overlap the vinyl on the back because the metal frame will not sit evenly.

In the end it turned out great - much less time/effort than painting the plastic, with much better results. The corners had a *few* creases, but you would never notice it unless you opened the glove box and actually looked for it.

Oh and of course you'll have to deal with the latch. IIRC I used a piece of 'test' vinyl to work out the slits needed. I may have even added a small piece of patch material. With the angle that it sits at, you'll never see it.

I took my glove box off because I wanted to gather a few things that will keep me busy over the winter. I was going to take the fabric off and try putting this on it.

I am considering making my own print of fabric because Nintendo doesn't license to fabric makers often so I have been looking for Mario fabric for about 2 years and the sad thing is I used to have some SMB2 fabric at my moms but now I can't find it.

Or does anyone have a link to a good supplier?
