Fox News host Glenn Beck launched his own news and opinion website on Tuesday that will include original reporting that Beck says will “pursue truth."

The site, named The Blaze, went live overnight and comes on the heels of Beck’s much talked about rally Saturday in Washington.

“If you are like me, watching the news or reading the paper can be an exercise in exasperation. It’s so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see,” Beck wrote in a note on the website. “Too many important stories are overlooked. And too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas.”

“We want this to be a place where you can find breaking news, original reporting, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most,” Beck added. “The Blaze will be about current news — and more. It’s not just politics and policy. It’s looking for insight wherever we find it. We’ll examine our culture, deal with matters of faith and family, and we won’t be afraid of a history lesson.”

The site was thrown together in just two months, Beck said, and it's being edited by Scott Baker, a former employee of conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

Beck provided further staffing details to Mediaite, which reports that the site has also hired Jon Seidl from the American Spectator and Meredith Jessup from Town Hall to work as reporters for Beck.

It is unclear what kind of original reporting Beck hopes to produce with the site, but on its opening morning The Blaze is made up of mostly stories aggregated from elsewhere and highlighted media mentions of Beck.

Beck has in the past used his television and radio shows to target members of President Barack Obama's administration.

The site’s lead story Tuesday is the same as the conservative Drudge Report’s, a Washington Examiner report on Agriculture Secretary Arne Duncan inviting staff to attend a rally with Al Sharpton rivaling Beck’s on Saturday.

The site also prominently features an item on the Huffington Post pulling down a post in which an author offers $100,000 for a sex tape of Beck, as well as New York Times’ conservative columnists Ross Douthat’s praise of Beck’s rally.

The only apparent ads for the site as of Tuesday morning were for a new book by former House Majority Leader and tea party favorite d!ck Armey and Goldline, a gold-based investment service that has been reported to sell the metal at a markup.

The Blaze? IB4flamerjokes.

Is this thing only for entertainment, too?

It changes nothing. The site is for one thing, and one thing only. To put money in Beck's pocket.

Anyone who thinks it's really designed to seek the truth and report such is sadly mistaken.

While Beck does bring out some good points he is way too tearful to be a real man and thus should be ignored.

Not a fan.

I can't put my finger on it, but I don't like a lot of bombast and emotion in my talk radio.

Educate me, talk to me like I'm just as smart as you (if not smarter), and for the love of God, do NOT have 3 people in the studio talking at once... My ADD gets all fired up and I want to kill the closest living thing.

I also don't like his "positioning" of himself as being representative of Christians in America. His beliefs are FAR, FAR removed from mine. We're not all like him.

I like when the Daily Show reminds us of what he was like when he was on MSNBC.

Some of the reader comments on that article are hilarious.

Beck wrote, "It's so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see," and a reader commented, "It's hard for me to make sense of the world he sees, too."

Dunno, I can't stand Jon Stewart so I simply could not get through one episode of his comic-news reporting.

See how much I watch Daily Show?

I haven't watched broadcast or cable television in a looong time. I have a 42" HDTV that I use for my computer monitor, and so my habits of using both a computer and a TV at the same time have changed.

So, you are saying the Daily Show is your primary resource for news?

No. I got the Beck thing wrong. Oh, I see what you did there...

But really, my primary source of news is NPR podcasts, with a healthy dose of word-of-mouth coupled with Snopes.

Stebo:
Doubt you've got it that much. I yell at my NPR podcasts when I'm in the car, and I mutter under my breath at them when I'm at work.

Tariq:
I listen to a wide range, but if a topic doesn't interest me, I'll fast forward. I have enough to get through a day, but if it's a particularly slow news day, I'll switch over to music when I run out.

If I have one source more than others, I'd say it's either the nationally-broadcast (NPR, API, PRI included) shows or the WNYC shows. I really enjoy This American Life for relaxing shows that allow me to substitute story-driven humanity (which I can understand) for real human contact (which almost completely confounds me). Planet Money and Radiolab are great for the artsy and plainspoken ways they break down complex economic and scientific issues respectively. On the Media's good because it seems like NPR's conscience.

Talk of the Nation can be okay, but it and The Brian Lehrer show are the source of most of my spontaneous topical tirades. I do appreciate the way the hosts challenge callers when they're completely separated from the mainstream thought, but are accomodating of even wildly disagreeing but apparently rational opinions.

There aren't many local CT shows that are available as download, but Where We Live is, and I like it for the local news. It's been the best coverage of the CT political scene, and provides a great more insight than what I'd get about CT than the national broadcasts. Of course, that's to be expected.

KCRW's okay, and I like Left, Right, and Center, but I wish, at times, that they'd spend more time on any particular topic, rather than a very short amount of time on a wide array of topics. Too bumper-stickery for my tastes. I don't have any other shows by then.

over the years, ive collected EVERY episode of TAL. I also have both seasons on DVD and have met Ira on one occasion. There really isnt much i can say about the show that you dont already know.

You also listen to radiolab which is my number two fav.

LRC is decent, but man are you right on their tendancy to be bumperstickery.

Im a big fan of Bill Maher's podcast, not for him, but because he attracts people like Dr. Cornell West, and Christopher Hitchens. Boy can both men turn a phrase.

I was listing to some lefty news station on XM the other day and their response to everything was the Republicans are stupid, retarded, clueless, racists, homophobes, etc. Didn't even attempt to discuss anything. I found it far worse than Rush.

I've heard Dr. West on more than one occasion on On Point and on the Brian Lehrer Show, but he's got a very religious style, and that turns me off a bit. You're absolutely right that he is eloquent.

I switch between NPR (ATC is on during my drive home) and the local talk radio show (Libertarian host Bruce St. James is good) on KTAR...

Sometimes we tune in for a little CNN at dinner (unless Rick Sanchez is on - that dude is a Grade A f***sock), and I skim USAToday and CNN.com every morning.
