We've been hitting on each side of this issue for a few months now. The problem is that no one seemed to care. Now at least, others are seeing the fork in the road and challenging us to be proactive.

I'm not an economist, but I understand the problem with a turning food into fuel. Aren't we missing the boat here? Can't we turn food into an assed in the declining dollar battle? Isn't it time to stop paying farmers not to grow food on their land?

Food and gas prices have been all over the news lately, and even a big dumb rodeo clown like me can see that it's all connected. Our policies, which try to cater to everyone from oil company executives to environmentalists, end up benefiting no one -- and now we're all paying the price.

I know that real economists probably will say that the causes of these skyrocketing prices are extremely complicated to understand, but the truth is that it's actually pretty simple: We've done this to ourselves.

I don't know if it's because of our arrogance, our stupidity or maybe both, but I believe that history may one day judge America as the most suicidal superpower of all time. After all, what country that cares about its future would do what America has done to its supply of food and fuel, two of the most critical things that any civilization needs to survive?

For example, look at the way we treat our food supply. We've spent decades giving billions of dollars in government subsidies with incentives for the wrong things, we've mandated that huge areas of farmland stay open for "conservation" and we're using grains that could feed tens of millions of people to make a crappy biofuel that you can't even buy anywhere.

That's not arrogance?

I think the main problem is not necessarily "regular" farmers. Farming families in general are hard working as hell and not necessarily going to sit around for a few years without planting and doing what they do. Now, bring businessmen into it and you potentially have people with large plots of land getting paid for nothing.

Being "out of the loop" I really do not know all the issues tho.....

On a similar note, the USAF just flew a B1-B powered by a 50/50 synth/conventional fuel mixture.

Considering how long it takes the military to do anything, I'm surprised by this.

That was a pretty expensive gamble if it didn't work. They must have been pretty sure.

The day we stop importing oil and start charging for exporting food is the day the dollar goes back up to the level it belongs.

I'm trying to keep my personal feelings/stances/comments out of this and just go by published facts. Please tell me if you think this gets too far off topic, Bobby.

I've always been a huge fan of Glenn Beck. As the only member of my family that actively pays attention to news and politics (And i'm the son. Weird.) I started listening a couple of years ago, but he has now started to make more sense now than ever.
