Unless it's a 2-piece window, you're going to be cleaning up a bunch of glass...

The window on our cars folds in the middle. So maybe you're going to have to re-engineer the way the window gets stored somehow...

Dex is right. You received it as in you already bought a window from an S2k? Hope you can return it, it's pretty much useless to you.

If you want to be really badass, try and reverse engineer the way a S2k top retracts and retrofit it to the 240's top. Or design a 240 hard top convertible!

Once I had a long conversation with a local upholstery shop owner about this. At that time, he had new folding glass rear window for a Mustang on the work bench. It's 2-piece put put together with urethane seal in the middle. He said he could custom order it for my car, but it would be VERY expensive. Most of all, big turn off was... he said the seal in the middle goes bad quickly if I drop the top a lot and eventually I have to replace rear window AGAIN. After I heard all that, I decided to go with TPU rear window when I replace the top. It's an interesting product...

Let us know if you do the TPU rear window and what it costs.

One idea a friend of mine had was to install a zipper system in his top so he could run the plastic window during the summer months when he's putting the top down, and run a glass window during the winter months. It's a neat idea, but I haven't seen it done before. He said he's known plenty of miata guys who had done it though.

i know the window fold in the middle, so the idea is just making the top half glass. and the bottom cloth vinyl. I do have the glass i just need to cut it to make it small enough for the top half

You also have to glue fabric on the top and elastic on the side of the glass, so you can sew it on to the top. Glass itself is cheap, but fabric needs to be specially glued on to the glass and that's why it gets expensive. I looked at Mustang 2 piece rear window carefully, and it was in amazing quality. No defroster was there though. That's whole another story.

Can't wait to see some pics. Is there split in the middle? I wander how it goes into the top well.

well here are the pics of the plexiglass rear? we have to do cut another 2'in because its hitting the hydrolic pump, wich made the glass crack a lil bit. but what do you guys think? is it worth it or should i just leave it stock?

Stock. Your blind spots are going to be so bad you may put yourself and other drivers at risk. Just get a tinted rear plastic window like mine and all will be fine.

The early Boxsters 97-01 had a vinyl window that folded in the middle and would wear out with age quickly. The aftermarket retrofit glass window kit has a 3/4 size of the original vinyl piece now in glass that folds at the edge of the glass, which is enough to get it to slow away like the original. Might or might not work on the 240, but it could be worth a shot.

as far as blind spots its not a hazard. i can see fine out the glass, even if i cut another 2'in. I was just wondering if it looks weird? a small glass in a big car, or does it look good? I like it, and friends do to. but i wanted the opinion of people who know the car.

Personally I'm not feeling it but major props for the innovation. Too much top back there and not enough window. I like the dark tint idea mentioned above though.

I really like it and it makes the car look like a newer car. I decided to re-do it i'll post some pics when done. Now i got to look for suspension, i dont like the way my car sits, way to high.

WOA WOA WOA WOA! It's another krash! Let it be known: Refer to him with the numbers at the end, krash133. I still get to be called krash, I was here first hehehehe jk btw any history behind that name dude? I'm just excited because anywhere I try to sign up it tells me the "krash" is already taken and I never see the "krash" so I have to use numbers

I dont really like it, but super props to you for doing it! that must have been hard! I would have made it a two peice glass back window if I did it. Its a really good install, Do you work with this kinda stuff alot? I'd say stock unless youre going to do 2-peice glass window.

Pretty old thread I know. But I was wondering if anyone had tried a glass rear window set-up like the miata has. It unzips partway for when the top goes down. Not sure if it would work, if anyone has done this and tried or failed let me know, I'd like to try it if no one else has.

no one has tried it, but it would be a pain to put the top down then. No more quick drop at lights....

I don't think it would be too bad. My girlfriend has the miata with the zipper back window and it takes all of a second or two to unzip the window and drop the top. I think I might look into this and try it out.

yea but the thing is the miata only has two seats. Thats why its a manual top, you can actually reach the back. its going to be kinda hard reaching all the way to the back window don't you think?

That will be a kind of a pain, but I think having a glass window might out way the hassle. Gonna look into it, and see if it is even possible.
