hey everyone, i have a dilemna about which gear oil to use. currently i have valvoline durablend 85w140, which is gl-5. my friend reccommended it because he says it protects the yellow metal in our trannies. but lately i have been reading that we should be using gl-4. if this is a repost im sorry, but i have used the search button.

thanx

Read a little futher down... a scan of relevant data from the FSM was posted by Hachi.

There is a high-contact-pressure additive in GL-5 oils that eats up syncros. Can't remember what its called at the moment...

I must've gotten the info for the additive off a third board... can't remember.

Anyways, here's the cheapest place to get redline: http://myoilshop.com/AutoPrds.html (10%-off dealer code 675421)
