Ok this winter I spent the whole december trying to improve my S13 from a KA24E into a KA24DE. Just last night I ended up the swap. I gave the KA24DE engine a major maintenance before I swap the other engine in. Things I replaced:New plugsNew Spark plug wiresNew Cap and rotorNew Coil and ignition control moduleNew O2 sensorNew water pump and thermostatOil Change 10W40 with lucas stabilizerReplaced S14 intake manifold and installed 1993 KA24DE intake manifold with all sensors and vacuum linesReplaced 1993 KA24DE ECU and Wire harnessreplaced distributor into an external distributor

Car runs but dies as soon as you start driving it. car runs very rich. alot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust. In order to drive it you have to keep it in high RPMS but eventually it dies because it overheats. Now here are the problemsand like I said any help is appreciated

1.Speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gaugue works. However tach does not work ( even though red with yellow stripe wires are connected on the ecu).

2. 5 minutes after engine warms up temperature goes beyond hot then overheats and dies

3. when you barely touch the gas pedal, car dies

4. car is running very rich lots of black smoke is coming out of the exhaust

By the way when I bought the crashed S14, the car was able to drive with no problems. However, when I put it in my car the car runs like crap. All EGR and vacumm lines are in the correct positions.

the swap looks very clean but unfortunately the car is not drivable

I will post a video so you guys can see what Im talking about.

yeah I forgot to say everything I did was according to that thread. I followed every step and well it says what to do if the car does not crank but in the other hand in does not say what to do if you get the following issues that I just explained above. I looked everywhere for solutions and well I don't know where else to look but to at least have any piece of info from you Nissan enthusiasts.

I messed with the timing today and it kind of runs better. It turns on quicker but still dies when driven. However, the car runs very hot. It is so hot that you can not even get near it. Should I remove the thermostat and drive without it? and the coolant in the reservoir is boiling even if I have the radiator filled. I have the clutch fan installed, and 2 electric fans and still overheats. any suggestions?

sounds like ur using the 89 afm, have u tried the ka24de afm?it's overheating probably there's still air in the cooling system, u need more air bleeding. Tach does not work because u have an 89 cluster, u need a ka24de cluster . They said u can transfer the tach only.

Just for fun, disconnect all the vac lines and plug, except for the fuel pressure reg and brake booster. It wont take long and it might solve the power and smoking issues.
