first off i've been reading and reading finding out what people like and don't like but i've come to conflicting answers a lot of times... what i have gathered so far is that there are a lot of good suspension setups out there but people end up blowing their shocks because they use them in the wrong way...so having said that here is what i have and what am looking for:i have a 1992 240sx hatch with some 17x7 with 40mm offset (stock offset) wheels with 215 width 45 height tires and right now a stock suspension. i am looking to spend around $500 give or take a little depending on what is available. my car is for street use mainly, and i race around with my friends on occasion. i'm not into strictly drifting or i would have posted that up somewhere else, i am more concerned with having a well balanced car that will perform well in the turns. i'm not concerned about how harsh the ride is or anything like that i just want the best setup i can get, that will last me as long as it should... i have a friend that keeps saying tokico blues, but i've read a lot that they are intended for stock springs and i don't want stock springs... i want to drop my car down at least 1.5" (i want it lower but not too low because it will still be driven on a lot of varying road, and i don't want my fenders and tires rubbing). so i guess i should be asking for shock/strut and spring reccommendations, as a combo or seperate or whatever... i am willing to spend around $500 on the shocks/struts and more on the springs if necessary, but obviously the less i have to spend here the more i get to spend on that paint job i really need...anyhow so anyone got advice for me. i'm trying to be as complete as possible here, if i left anything out please let me know. thanks.

you sound like you want a little firmer ride, with some pretty good lowering...but worry about shocks

maybe a tein s-tech with agx...tons of people run this so maybe people that have it can chime in

you could also just search "s-tech" and im sure youll find a ton of info about this combo

basically i know there are plenty of capable shocks/struts for what i have in mind, but my main concern is which ones (these are obviously going to be non adjustable) will sit at ~1.5 inch drop and not blow out because i see people complain about their shocks blowing out a lot, but usually it's just because they lower the car and the shocks can't handle being in that state all the time... well i just want to be sure to get some that can handle that... i have two friends with kyb's that are lowered and they have held up great so far, but i am wondering if maybe there is something better i guess. thanks for the reply by the way.

^^^ if you want better than kyb youre talking koni yellows with like rs*r race springs

i dont know if you want that stiff a ride but you get great handling out of it

would that be in my price range? this car may eventually just be a weekend car so i may be interested, but we'll see...

i may just go with the kyb's cause they do do well, but we'll see what other replies i get and maybe i can look around and ask you guys whet you think about different setups...

are the tokico's kind of out of the question for me, or do they make some that are made for a car lowered 1.5"?

well the price range would be a problem...for the shocks alone at tire rack the kyb's are 390, but the koni's are 575

if you just want lowering and not much of a stiffer spring you could get eibach pro-kits, which are right about the lowering amount you want but not a very stiff spring

so are there no other comparable (price and performance wise) alternatives to kyb's? i am not against getting kybs at all just wanting to feel out my options completely... i am interested in balancing my car out very well... i want to eliminate understeer and increase overall cornering performance. i want to lower the car about 1.5". just basically i'm not too worried about my car's ride quality suffering too much, because i am not looking for an extreme track dedicated setup, just something to drastically improve my cornering performance overall... my friends kybs are nice but had a bit of understeer.. anyhow it looks though as if i will be looking into getting kybs, because they seem to be a favorite and can handle being lowered 1.5+ inches and not blow out. anyhow correct me about anything i have said, and suggest more to me (as far as options, opinions, or whatever)... thanks for the replies

tein s-tech's are pretty good springs. I've ridden in and driven a few cars with those and KYB AGX's and it makes for a pretty good setup, not to mention its affordable. Can definately be had for in the $600 range.
