don't incriminate yourself...

I know a lot of people driving 240sx's with illegal engines, my self included, and we never worry about a cop asking to pop the hood. This could be because I live in an area where cops don't mind the import scene to much but whatever. The point is, if so many people are willing to take the risk to drive a care with an illegal motor that might void the vehicles insurance then y do people care about legal and illegal skylines so much? Would it, or is it really so hard to get an r32 in Canada, trailer it back to the states as an off road vehicle only, get rid of every marking that says its a skyline, and then swap the vin from a s13 coupe over to the r32 and register it and insure it with the 240's vin number. Yes its very illegal but how is it any different from driving a car with out a bumper support and an illegal turbocharged motor that doesn't meet emissions. both situations include lying to the insurance company and hoping to god that if you wreck no one will look at the car too closely.

again I just want to hear your thoughts, flame the idea, not me personally, don't incriminate yourself. mods, If this has to be deleted because it talks about something illegal then so be it but plz don't delete my account for asking the question.

first, the reason i care about illegal skylines is if they get caught they get crushed. thats a sad thing to do to a skyline, is get it crushed. what a waste of a nice car.

I believe swapping vins is illegal because it makes it look like the vehicle is stolen and/or deceives the next potential owner... its irrelevant to what's under the hood or any other kind of illegal power modification made for "street racing".

besides, what's the point of swapping vins from a 240sx to a skyline? You think state referee won't be able to tell the difference because vins are different?

I have had four cars insured at different times and at no point have I ever had someone inspect the vehicle, I don't live in an area that is smog tested, and I sure as hell wouldn't sell the skyline after swapping the vin as that to me would be immoral towards the next owner. that being said: no, I would not feel guilty about breaking the law and ultimately giving home land security the middle finger to drive the car I want without moving to Canada.

I have been on many forums where the mods were able to delete and ban at will.

Not sure, after seeing a few 240 kids modifying to look like a skyline I wouldn't be surprised if people looked at it and had no clue what it was. - every identifiable marking would be erased, meaning no badges, not stickers, no decals, and any embossing would be shaved.

esh...

well, it all really depends on the staff. Nico's too large of a forum for all (and we have a lot, lol) the mods to have ban powers imo. Best left for the Admins and super mods.... but that's a different topic.

anyways, regarding the topic, I guess it all depends on your location. I don't see the purpose of swapping vins at all unless you're swapping damaged shells.

Theres a kid that shows up to one of the local meets that has an R32 skyline coupe. The dude has Alberta plates and doesn't get hassled at all. I also know an R33 owner and I've talked to a few R34 owners (remember, I live in Southern California), and they don't get hassled at ALL. Yet, roll down the street in my s13, and I'll get pulled over for not having a front plate and my car being too low

yeah, its not fair (it never is), but I think when it comes down to it, its all about revenue. Tickets for modified cars are easier to give than proving an imported car isn't allowed to be on the streets (unless its not registered).

so its not so much that skylines are non existent in the states because only the motor ex ones are legal, its more of the illegal ones never talk about it because they don't want the attention.
