My boyfriend and I are both love cars. I have a thing for Porsche and he likes Skylines and the 240sx. One day we were talking and I promised to race him. I am somewhat worried though, because if I beat him (which I probably will -Me, in a Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet, 0-60 in 5.8 and 250 hp,and him in a '96 240 sx) there is the whole male ego thing. Since I really like him should I take the chance? If you had a girlfriend that loved cars and she wanted to race you, would you let her? If she won would it bother you? Any advice?I like him more then I like cars-which is saying something.

Thanks!

Umm... I don't care who's driving... if I'm foolish enough to line up next to a 944 with a stock 240sx... I don't have the right to be pissed at the other driver... it's my supid a$$ fault for thinking I might have a chance!

hmm , i would let her race me , id beat her more than liekly , male ego thing leads me to always try to have a faster car than primary competition , female compain would be primary competition , male ego thing again (cant look weak in front of "the lady")

if i knew she could beat me with her ride , id just admit it and say "i can do something else faster", if she got me in a fair race then id be fine with it, probably be turned on , i find a girl that can outrun me behind the wheel quite sexy

if the 240s stock then it wont be a very interesting race , porsche will walk all over it , sorry 240 guys the engineers in stutagart have you on this one

i wouldn't be concerned about the 'male ego' issue or the fact that he's a guy. he obviously doesn't know what he's up against or in his mind he thinks you can't drive and he'll have some kind of advantage in that respect. let him lose. :evilhaha

my ex was excited when i got my car, now he just (and still) makes these stupid comments about it and how he'll beat me in the autocross season coming up and how his car is infinitely better than mine (he's got a 5th-gen Lude) in fact, he was badmouthing my car today. bastard. it reminds me why i left him. he's so freakin immature. he's got money to modify his new car and i'm struggling w/ my part-time job to pay my bills *plus* do something for my car. and i still get criticized...

oops.. i went off ranting again. (makes a hasty retreat)

I wouldn't sweat it. I would respect a girl who has a faster car that she can drive well. It wouldn't hurt my ego any if I got beat especially by that car.

Your man should respect you for liking cars and racing. If he does have a big ego problem then he can just fix up his ride to at least hang with ya.If my man....if i had one...*sigh* didn't like me stomping his A$$ all the time i'd just tell him to get used to it or piss off.... I've only got one 240 but i can find a man anywhere...yeah yeah

Trade cars for the race. He can think his superior driving skills carried the day while you will know the truth. Besides, you will get to hear what your car sounds like from the rear.

Make sure he agrees to replace the clutch if he fries it.

First off, welcome to NICO! Sounds like your companion knows absolutely NOTHING about cars if he thinks his 17-second car has a remote chance of coming anywhere CLOSE to keeping up. Accept the challenge and then go smoke his a$$ - BADLY.

Poor guy's gonna get his ego shoved up his chute sideways, LOL.

Hope he's got some other redeeming qualities.

Sky, your x-guy sounds like a real 'tard. (Of course, I kinda thought that when I saw the pics you posted way back when:D) Tell him there's a loudmouth "old man" on NICO with a big fat Q45 that'd LOVE to race his 'lude for $$$.

AZ, come on man, 240 ain't a 17 second car. even my auto runs mid 16's. i'm definately not sayin the 240 will be anywhere close to that porsche, but jeez, 17 seconds is just pitiful! i had to say sumthin. :)

Sounds like your guy doesn't know what he has coming. If I had the money I'd ditch my 240 without a second thought for a turbo 944. I LOVE those cars. Porsche is actually #1 in my book, with Nissan as a close second. Too bad Porsche has that very reputable, and very EXPENSIVE name behind it..... But in answer to your question, I'd definatly think it's a turnon if a girl beat me in a race. I've only lost to a girl once (not that it's a bad thing) but it was a 2 door, late 90's Grand Prix GTP (supercharged 3.8L) and I didn't realize that she was wanting to race until she started to squeal her tires. By that time, she already had a good start on me. Not that I could have beat that car anyway, they're fast! (knew a guy who changed pulleys and was running 13's) Anyway, I talked to her afterwards, and she did it on purpose cuz she didn't know if 240's were fast or not. She was a ditz anyway but it was cool to see a girl who had a decent car and knew how to drive it.

Race him, smoke him, and if he *****es about it (and you still want to keep his whiney ***) offer a rematch and switch cars(if you trust him with the 944). Good choice on the ride by the way.....I almost bought one that had transmission problems for $1900, but just couldn't afford it.

It doesnt matter if you beat him, he'll still say hes faster. My girl has a 92' which is auto as well as mine. Hers is basically stock with a 2.5" test pipe I tossed on when I was fabricating them a cpl yrs back. Mine well it runs a 15.7 even with an auto, and has 2x - 3x more work into the suspension. It handles very well, and my gf says its too stiff...

Anyway we race all the time, on the way back to the house or what not. I pull on her by alot at the top of 2nd, and let off as Im already going a bit too fast, like wise on the highway (I dont streetrace anymore but I race her, never thought of that till now hehe). I dont even really want to talk about the exit / entrance ramps to the interstate.

But the thing is, hers is still faster, and always will be. Ill be fixing some things up shortly, and having her run at the next auto-x as she loves going to them, but she wont be close to my times (and unfortunately Im to possesive of my car to let anyone drive it, so she has to run hers hehe)... Since she loves her car so much though it will always be the best in her eyes. Much like mine is in my eyes.

I have a friend who says the same thing in a NA auto z32. We ran the 1320 3 times of which he got me on one (had the od off and at 4 grand in 3rd it drops about 200 rpm, for I still dont know what reason, thus loosing by a tenth), but it still was a cpl of tenths from my best times to his. But his car is faster....

Race him, dust him, and let him say why he lost and dont really get into it too much hehe.

I'd love to see you smoke him, but I'm in Japan. There are a few girls I know over here who drive really fast 7's. I've raced them on more then one occasion in my Skyline only to have my a$$ handed to me. Doesn't hurt my ego at all.

Here's one for ya though, I'll be back in Dec. I pick up my GTR from AfterDark shortly there after. I'd be more then happy to let your BF sit shotgun if you wanted to race me. I'll even put 2 more of your friends in the backseat....8)

What on earth? CHEL!edit: I plan on S14 SR with a few mods, probably good for 250hp or more, now think about it. Oh, I don't mind losing, but I'd rather win, I'm not sure she'd pity the loser...

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you guys for replying. If we ever get around to the race-I will let you know who won. Either way, I am a winner because (he's my boyfriend) and if I win then I have more then bragging rights, and if I don't I get to "congragulate" him. Hehe.....

Thanks Again!
