Car: 90 240sx soon to be s13.4 with a 90 ford cougar supercharged 3.8... it was just sitting in my garage

Post

i just got a 1990 hatch and im going to drive it through the winter instead of my bike which was my only transportation until now lol. s14 kouki front end conversion, kouki tail lights and rear spoiler, typical drifer body kit lol. definatly going to put a supercharged 3.8 liter v6 outta a 1990 cougar xr7 i bought with a blown head gasked for 200 bucks back that with a 5-speed t5, custom t5 to 300zx drive shaft to a 300zx lsd rear end sitting in a 300zx sittin in my back yard, PLUS the hubs and brakes all the way around im gonna drift the #@$% outta it btw

so.... 1. to what detail and how difficult is the 5 lug conversion?

2. are the cheap strut braces, suspension kits, and coil overs off ebay worth it?

3. also how do i adjust the suspension and what does what when i do?

4. im also curious if getting steel braided brake lines would be bennificial?

5. im assuming that im going to have to use the 300zx brake booster too?

6. and i say a proffesional drift car and hot import nights last year with a huge *** shifter..... ?

umm, feel free to mention any other suggestions i havent listed that i will need to know about.

1) Pretty straight forward.2) It's a crap shoot with cheap suspension parts. Some work well, others break easily.3) You can write a book on suspension. Take your time to learn each component and how it affects your overall suspension and handling.4) Yes, it helps.5) No.6) ?

hahahai laughed and spit on my screen. thanks, Hachibill. i read an olddd post on NICO from a guy asking what kinds of suspension setups and tuning people were using for drift, and he basically got his a$$ chewed. the general consensus was: it depends on each individual driver, and that he was a moron.

i guess there's some generalities, or rules of thumb.. a guy with lots of experience in a ragged out 240 with POS you-name-its can literally do circles around a jackass wannabe with a pimped out 240.

not very often do i drift, mostly touge racing here. body roll was killing me at first; turn hard to the left, and the body wants to roll to the right, the outside of the turn. i purchased Greddy type S coilovers all around, cusco sway bars, and i upgraded my brakes. i have very very minimal roll, my springs and dampener settings keep my car from bouncing off of bumps around corners.. right now, the only thing keeping me back is... ME. and not to mention my front tires are balder than mr. clean.

bruinbear714 is pretty much dead-on. there are lots and lots of resources to invest time into reading; take everything with a grain of salt. you know, what works for me may not work for you and all that. but really, it'll take some time trying to narrow down what you want. money helps.

a lot of times, just replacing parts with oem equivelants is a huge help. like steering racks, new bushings.. they made the WORLD of difference in my hachi. not to mention techno toy tuning coilovers and yokohama AO48s all around.

races don't start for another four hours, so i'm killing time and spilling my two-cents worth of garbage, but i think you want to start with google. and again, since i don't drift much, i don't know what you're looking for. but it seems people like lower their cars and stiffen things up. some people swear up and down on the sway bars (and for me, they KICK MOTHER ****ING ***). there's some real cool people on NICO, and a lot of them drift religiously. if you find a component and you're wondering how it worked out, post it up! ask to see if anybody's used them and how they liked it. the cost:effeciency thing can hurt.

some ebay stuff has worked for me. i say fudge it now though..

and the ginormous shifter is just that. and probably used as a sex toy when nobody's looking.

try that. there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do with stock suspension, and since you're asking about ebay suspension, i'm assuming you're in the market for something. i would start with coilovers. good luck!
