Post

So I decided to trade-in my coupe yesterday for a 3.5 SL sedan, for the reason of wanting a more practical, upscale, spacious vehicle. Did the trade-in plus $6k.......

Was having second thoughts about it, because I really miss the manual shift and the sporty feel of the coupe, even though I didn't have the premium package or anything. But the SL is very nice inside........

So today the dealership calls me, oh, there is a problem with the financing...blah blah blah. In order to get the $500 instant rebate for college grad, I need to finance a minimum of $7k. They say I need to go by the dealership again, sign all the paperwork again for the HIGHER amount of 7k, and then they will mail me a $1k rebate.

I was like uh No, I am not comfortable with that. I signed the paperwork for $6k, I have the car, and that was the agreed upon amount. So then they were like well......... Either do it, or return the car tonight.

So I said OK, I will return the car. They were pretty shocked, I think they were just saying that and didn't really want me to return it, just trying to push me to finance $7k.

So I made it clear I will not do that, because it is a load of poop and they can't go changing the deal after it's been signed and car delivered. So I'm waiting to hear back from them, hopefully this afternoon.

Maybe tonight I will get my coupe back~! :P

Wow, dealerships can be so full of it when they want to. They gave me the same story, about the finance guy being new, and saying it was a mistake.

So I drove all the way back down there, vehemently defended my position that I would never finance another $1000 and take a $1000 check in return, and after the manager tried to pressure me, and do a major guilt trip, he finally gave in.

So I got the original price I wanted, plus my financing actually went from 4.9% to 3.9% once they found a new bank,,, pretty cool ey?

Overall, good deal. The one thing I forgot and anyone buying a new car should remember, ask for the TOTAL COST after all fees, trade-in, down-payment, tax, everything. I had totally forgotten there would be a $349 'documentation fee'. I've seen this fee at other dealers too, but usually it is more like $200.

Anyone found a way around the doc fee?

damn bro, way to stick to your guns. i'm sure that wasn't the answer they were looking for and prolly shocked the hell out of um.

when you go back to the dealership ask them what they would say if you signed a contract and came back the next day saying they need to re-do the contract for a thousand less because you made a mistake and went over your budget or you would like to just get back the car you traded in and see what they say

No but when i buy or lease a car i do the math ahead of time and when I go in I give them a monthly payment I want out the door tax and all. Lets say $400/39 if they cant do it I walk...If they agree too quick you could have saved some money
