Ghost Radio - Electrical Failure?

Has anyone heard about any strange electrical situations with the second gen Rogue? I have a 2019 Rogue S and today I hit the unlock button on my key fob and my stereo started blasting. I hadn’t opened the doors, obviously did not have the key in the ignition, and the display on the radio was still blacked out. It didn’t seem like anything else had power so I am not sure if it is an issue with the stereo itself or a more widespread electrical issue. I just find it odd that hitting the key fob to unlock it triggered the music to play without powering on the display for the radio itself. I’ve tried to replicate the issue but it hasn’t happened again.

IIRC the '19~'20's have no ignition wire into the radio, they turn on and off via CAN. So it's possible it was just a mistranslated CAN packet and won't happen again. If it does, the problem will be either the radio or the BCM, so try doing a hard reset. Take both battery terminals loose and touch or jump them together to completely discharge everything electrical. That will force all the microcontrollers in the vehicle to boot up cold and will often remedy any software that's "off in the weeds".

My radio starts automatically when I start the car even if it was shut off when I left. It also can start when I turn the engine off or disconnect the phone from the USB port. Is it by design or a bug? It's so annoying...

That sounds like a hardware problem. There are no software updates for a '21 Sport, and we don't see many issues with those AV Units. The only thing you can try is a hard reset, disconnect both battery cables and touch or jump them together. That will force all the processors in the car to boot up cold, which will usually fix any software which has gone "off in the weeds". If that doesn't help then I'd say you have a defective AV.

Thank you for the insight! It hasn’t happened again but I will try this after work just to make sure. I had an issue a couple days prior where the DRL on the passenger headlight was going in and out so I thought maybe there was a larger issue after the radio nonsense. Thank you!
