That depends on the color though...k00laid83 wrote: Seriously 350 can buy you almost all the materials to paint your whole car.
Evercoat. You can sand by hand all you need is a block, you do no need primer unless its down to bare metal.300sx wrote:All this talk about doing it myself..sounds tempting. I have never painted anything before..atleast anything like this.
paint code is kh3
What would i need if i were to tackle it myself?
some sand paper..pretty sure multiple gritsprimercolorsander (electric or air)acetone?
There is a small dent on the middle of the lid..how would i cover that up? what is the stuff they use on tv..the green stuff
800 grit to remove the gloss and some of the paint, 1000 grit to smooth it out, wash it and make sure its nice and clean. 2 coats primer, sand with 1000 grit, another 2 coats of primer, sand again, and again till you have a nice, heavy, smooth coat. Do the same for applying the color paint. if you get any runs just sand it smooth with 800 grit and work it down with 1k grit until there's no more swirls from the 800. Dont do random zig zags when applying the paint, just straight lines from one end to the other. The dent could maybe be covered up with bondo but make sure you know what your doing. Look up bondo videos on youtube, how to's etc. Bondo is a bit hard if your just starting but you'll get the hang of it.300sx wrote:All this talk about doing it myself..sounds tempting. Then I would have to say let a shop do this. Sanding, spraying primer, and even spraying the color is not too difficult...but laying down the clear coat takes some skill though.300sx wrote: I have never painted anything before..atleast anything like this.
naw bro you'll need 320 to sand idown the paint 800 will take to long and then wet sand it with 800...and kh3 man should be cheap i remember paying 50 bucks for a quart of kh3 and i panted my roof and my engine bay with it! so you'll need a pint and it should be at least half of that. That was for a single stage and you can still color sand that and buff it. It'll come out like a two stage paint job!user name! wrote:800 grit to remove the gloss and some of the paint, 1000 grit to smooth it out, wash it and make sure its nice and clean. 2 coats primer, sand with 1000 grit, another 2 coats of primer, sand again, and again till you have a nice, heavy, smooth coat. Found it on craigslist.LOVERboy wrote:i want i want!!!! where did you get it from?
Its funny to say that seeing as how I've painted my entire car, a friends entire car, 3 sets of rims (1 set my brothers, other two mine), front bumper off my last 240, all of my interior trim pieces, my taillights, friends taillights, friends grill, my brothers grill, and a crap load of other small things, I'd say i have. Maybe not as much as some people in here but I'm speaking from my own experience and nothing I've painted has ever chipped, ran, cracked, or any other crazy stuff. I've never told anyone to do something unless i was positive of it myself and had experience with it personally. stfun240sxfnatic wrote:
