Thought I'd take another stab at the vac lines. I need to replace the ones that run in front of the engine. How do you get to them on the carb side? My hands aren't that big, but I can just barely touch the top one when it meets the tubing. It seems like everything is in the way.

You can take off the air cleaner to get at the carb, there are two bolts into the valve cover and one in the center above the carb.

Yeah, I have it off. But I still can't reach where the lines come across the front of the engine. They connect between a radiator hose, the alternator, and the master cylinder(?). I can't get my hand in between them all to actually reach where the hose and the tube connect, heck I can barely see them with a flashlight. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but its a California truck.

I'll try to get one tonight, if there is enough light when I get home.

ah... i see the issue now

the reason mine were so easy to get to was because i have the belt and pulley as well as the power steering pump all removed... i'm not sure i really have any suggestions as to how to get to them for you without removing the stuff and getting it out of the way

to be honest... if you have a little time on your hands... moving that stuff out of the way and reinstalling it after isn't the worst thing in the world

They have to be removed and reinstalled when you're finished.

It's all do-able, I was just hoping that there was one thing I could loosen and move to get it done.

Thanks.

I made the mistake of connecting the wrong lines on mine, but you can get at it from underneath, preferably with the truck up on ramps. I had to have a friend shine a flashlight in there, and it was still a tight squeeze. The bracket and assembly for the power steering pump were really hard to maneuver around. Goood luck man, I had some bloody knuckles after that one lol

I was able to replace those hoses today. Ended up taking out the battery, loosening the belt and taking out the power steering pump bracket. That gave me room to get my hands in there and I could see what I was doing. Much easier than I thought it would be.

As an added bonus, I cleaned up the ground mounted on the bracket bolt. It really needed it.

Tomorrow I'll finish with the ball joints.
