Yeah I'm definetly getting the hang of drifting. Every night after work I pass by this medium sized parking lot and try a few runs before I head wherever I'm going, and I think after a summer of doing this I'm ready to graduate to a bigger parking lot.

This is starting to get pretty fun. I can toss the car sideways pretty easially now, but I just cant get the long drifts that I want to practice control mid-drift... the parking lot is just too small.

For those of you who drift (or try to on occasion like me ;) ), what kind of places do you practice in? I dont live in an area where there are huge empty parking lots (not without concrete islands in the way, anyways), and I'm not really willing to try this on any open road... what do you guys do?

I practice at work. We got this big trailer lot that is pretty nice. Granted I do this at night when they all leave. Working security has some perks I suppose. :batman

I used to work security, and I used to do that at night when my buddy who also worked security worked, I'd do laps around the building ;)

Coupe = teh rox0r. But umm yeah the last drift I did was pulling out of my college parking lot  was the look I got;)

You should try drifting a u-turn one of these days (late at night when theres nobody around of course). Quite fun.

We all go out to a spot out in the middle of now where to practice. It's just one corner but it's a big corner and let's you try different types of drift.

The U-turn is my greatest foe. We always have one at the local Auto X and I mess it up every time. One day it will bow down to me for I will make it my *****.

I've been trying to find places around here for months. The only places with big parking lots are schools, and that's definitely not worth it...the cops will show up within minutes. All the warehouses/factories with decent sized lots either work 3 shifts or are heavily patrolled.

I went drifting with a friend of mine with an 81 corolla the other night. i wanted to see the difference between my drift and his. that was the first time i rode passenger on a drift...deeeeng...totally different perspective..my heart was racing!

well my drift is like this...i go like 40-45 on a corner... i'm in third gear. then i heel and toe to second gear and move the car sideways before i reach the corner. so i drift before the corner and around the corner then i straighten the car after the corner. i guess you can say it's a regular drift using just the steering wheel and the throttle.

my friend drifts like this. he goes like 40 or so...stays on the outside and when the corner starts getting closer he starts moving on the inside, he still keeps going...before he hits the corner. he brakes hard to transfer the weight to the front of the car. then turns and transfers the weight to the side i guess. counter steering while controlling with the throttle. so the car is going sideways at the corner and after the corner. it's weird because when i look at the video tape, it seems like he is just drifting after the corner..or power sliding? i dunno...can you guys give me input?

ohh yeah i drift at the business areas around here. no cars at all and super wide roads.

Sounds to me your friend is brake drifting. If that is his style then he can stick with it. Tell him to try a feint instead. It's kinda similiar but before you enter the corner you turn the other way then jerk the car back into the corner... bah.. I'm not good about explaining things.

you mean like...lets say you're drifting on a right turn. you slide to the left first and then counter to the right so that you're drifting to the right now. then you drift the corner?

What's scary is when your friend is doing it at 70+ mph

me and my friends go to this industrial area off the beaten path, where they load/unload 18 wheelers and such. after 5 o' clock theres no one there. find a place like that, as long as its sort of hidden. or wait for a dgtrials event. i went to one on saturday, only like 15 drivers showed. 9 hours of drifting = alot of seat time.
