all that I can think of is oil pan for dents, around the head for leaks,if he lets you check plugs to see how it ran before it was pulled good luck

Check trhe turbo too, make sure there isnt too much oil in the inlet, i mean expect to see some oil but but if there is a poddle of oil stay away for motor cause most kikely it has a bad turbo.

My motor had gobs of oil and dirt in my turbo. My turbo is now fine. It was just oil and dirt from shipping and tipping of the motor. Look for the one with no bent fuel rail, good cas, low oil leaks around the head, oem style clutch (if motor is seperated from transmission), and other things I can't think of right now. Oh yeah, oil pans will most likely be dented.

Dented oil pan, hopefully a stock clutch, green coolant, decent looking oil (not cloudy), shaft play on the compressor as well as damaged blades, etc...

I don't really know what you mean. Just check for a cut in the main bundle at the rear of the valve cover and when it feeds into the firewall.

I just don't think of putting 100+ leads back together as being fun.

sounds like the harness is cut on all three of them.probably back by where it goes through the firewall.

keep in mind, you can't really trust those compression numbers on an engine that hasn't been started in a long time.i guess if one of them is at like 2 or something then it may be a problem. like everyone else says.check the oilpan, look for broken sensors.shaft play in the turbo, and look for oil stains on the block.pull the drain plug if you can to see what trickles out.
