sure if you don't want your exhaust gases recirculating. You could be using up more gas and if you lived here you won't pass inspection.

Yank everything off that's EGR related, plug the hole in the rear header, make a block off plate for the upper intake mani, and let the sensor dangle. It won't throw any codes but be ready for a rough idle.

Did the guy clean the EGR paths in the intake and the EGR tubes? If these are clogged that could explain the p0400 problem.

In the same situation i am doing a project max and i decided to completely remove it i just left the sensor there car hasnt been started so i dont know about the rough idle. Also the EGR is a POS it dirtys the hell out of the IM i just removed mine and there was gunk everywhere from the stupid EGR.

SO EGR= CRAP

but here is the thing if you have inspections in your area you wont pass due to the exhaust gases and if you removed your precats much less will you pass unless you know a mechanic that does the inspections lol....

Are you serious? You think your EGR=Crap?

That thing is designed to save you money on unused fuel and also should help our environment by making sure fuel is combusted.

Just a thought, but you might think about cleaning out your intake, changing your fuel filter, and any other fuel cleaning method listed on here.

I have a 96 I30 with over 250k. My EGR had problems too (it cracked), so I "stole" one of a 97 Max including rubber hoses and viola. No engine codes and no excess fuel waste.

The part isn't hard to replace yourself. I'd ditch the mechanic and DIY.

see the main problem i find with the egr is that it cloggs up so easily and it fills up everything else it touches with gunk and nasty crap. for you to keep your IM upper and lower and everything else the egr touches clean you would practically have to clean it out prolly just as much as you change your oil.....i have seem some bad egr's and even though some of my friends clean out their systems every 5 or 6 thousand miles it still nasty and still cloggs up. its just meant for you to pass emissions. EGR belongs in the same pile that precats and cats belong.

In my opinion see also down here in florida we dont have emmission testing havent now for a few years. Been some talk about it coming back in 2008 but doubt it

We have emissions here but the dont dyno any more they only test obdII though the computer so i just want to find a way to pass emissions with out having to pay some some 400 to clean a few hoses every two years, every time i go i have to put out that cash
