every time I turn up my speakers "too much" (CDT CL-61 components in the front), or I get a song that has too much bass or whatever, my stupid doors (I think) rattle. You guys know any tricks of the trade that help cut down on that annoying rattle that is destroying my otherwise quality sound?? Its driving me crazy!

Do you have any sound deadening material in the door?

Do you have any cross over on the door speakers?

Are the door speakers amp'ed?

Have you tried playing around to see if the rattle is inner door, outer door, door cover or speaker itself?

Can you re-cap your set up?

We should be able to solve this.

do your "doors" rattle all the time when you are crankin the music? or is it just some frequencies that make them rattle? cause there is a resonant frequency (+/- 10hz) in your door panel that WILL make your door panels rattle unless you sound deaden the crap out of them.

if they rattle all the time when you're crankin em, you're most likely not feeding them enough power and your decks amp is forcing out a distorted signal... but if they are amped, then.....

what Rex said, re-cap your setup :D

hey sorry:

uhmm my setup is pretty basic:6x5 CDT CL-61 Components.. so yeah there is a crossover for the tweet (which is near where the side view mirror is sorta in the door) and the woofer (which is in the normal spot). They're run by the stock amp in my head unit...which isnt very good I dont think. Yeah, I've been meaning to amp them but right now I'm just to concerned with spending my money on other things. No, I dont have any sound deadening material in there, but I didnt think they would really rattle that much. They're not really rattling the whole door per-se, just kinda around the woofer sorta. It keeps scaring me like they're blown out or something but they're not.

I suppose I could just pack dynamat or whatever in there or something, but it just seems like a waste when my rattle is so localised and when it only happens during certain kinds of bass (cant really describe it though... argh). What was that you said about the distorted signal? That kinda caught me by suprise cause otherwise the CDTs sound AWESOME- especially with acoustic type stuff.

Ok, try this, remove the door panel/cover and try to make them "rattle". If you can, then it's not the door panel/cover, if you can't it's the door panel/cover and you just need to see about bracing/securing it.

If you can still make it rattle with the door panel/cover removed, then start applying pressure around the speaker to see if you can minimize or eliminate the rattle. If that works, you may simply be able to add some type of foam or padding between the edge of the speaker and the door/mounting. If not, you might try either a higher (passive) crossover until you get an amp, or you may even try to get some small rubber washers and put them between the speaker and the door to help dissapate the reverbirations of the speaker.

Let us know.

haha i like that sentence... but i wonder if doing that would cause air leaks and then you'd hear a buzzing sound because of that? sound to me like he needs more power to them, and that is why the accoustic stuff sounds nice cause the deck has no problem replicating clean mids and highs, it's just the bass that gets distorted... but best best would be what Rex said, take the door panel off and listen to them. if they still "rattle", get an amp

FWIW, I was suggesting more of a dampening piece, than anything that would create a space/gap for air to whooooooooooooosh by :D.

When/if you take the door panel off, use the wooden handle of a hammer to apply pressure around the speaker and mounting/bracket to see if you can identify an area you might can re-inforce to help.
