Im curious if anyone has completely rewired there rb25 projects and got rid of the fuse boxes.

I was consider making a panel where the cd player goes and running everything to toggle swicthes, relays and terminal blocks from the ignition swicth. I know it will probably take a weeks worth of time but seems to clean up alot of the uneaded stuff like AC and all.

don't know if Karmin had his done during his RB days, but he has done so now with his LS1.

Quite a few people have done this using off the self starter wiring kits like "painless" and such.

If the sake of doing this is to clean up under hood clutter, why not just relocate them out of sight?

But if this is for more reasons than that, by all means, go all out :-D

I thought about relocating but im more about cleaning up the harness and getting rid of whats not needed. Plus once its rewired it will make everything else in the future alot easier to work on.

I work on alot of generator fuel carts at work. Thats how I came up with the idea. Alot of the equipment that I work on at the airport are put together with relays, soliniods and terminal blocks. And it seems alot eaisier to work on rather than having a bunch of wires all over the place with aot of diffrent colors.

Just a thought.

Im glad you mention about painless b/c a buddy of mine bought it years ago and never used it. Im sure I could take it off his hands for next to nothing.

im in the process of doing it right now... I ordered 600ft of red, black, white, & blue wire, 12 Relays, 12 Port Fuse box w/ out grounds, 80 amp circuit breaker & Kill Switch

My friend has done 3 "race car" wiring setups already. One of them a rb25... he is going to use all the oem switches. I well post pics once its finished... should take forever... lol

I totally support this idea. Please document it so I can learn from your pain and attempt to do it myself some day. =)

heres a pic of my setup someone snapped a while back

i removed the entire chassis harness (both boxes) and redid everything.

the ease of troubleshooting is great but the amount of work it takes it ridiculous. not only that but you have to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to wiring.

it doesnt matter what engine it is on because very little of your actual chassis wiring has anything to do with your motor. powers, grounds, ignition signals. thats it. everything else like headlights, tail lights, reverse lights, fuel pump, key (if you keep it) windows, etc etc is what the main chassis harness controls.

Any reason why you chose the stereo console opening instead of some other location (glovebox?)

cause its a racecar and its easier to get to than inside a glove box.

joe is there an adapter to get the speedo to work? I'm doing the same gauge setup with Ultra Lites... I have everything but the speedo...

Where did you get the CF planes? I think i'm just going to make mine out of sheet metal.... prob cheaper that way.

My setup is going to be behind/Up High the glove box.

if its an electric speedo you have to do a 2 mile drive to calibrate it. i drove 2 miles around the back of my shop then took the car on the same path. it was really simple.

the cf plates were from friends who had damaged hoods. free parts from fellow drifters. gotta love it.

i made a complete harness for my 13 from scratch, all my lights are controled from a switch panel, the motor run off another, really cleans up the engine bay n saves a lil bit of weight as well, also help out in dignosing ne wiring issues you have now since youll be deleting all old circs
