Getting rid of auto seatbelt guides?

I'm searching the local junkers now for some S14 seatbelts to replace my S13 automatics. I didn't realize there was a pre-drilled hole there until a few days ago. I'm one step closer to realizing my dream, a quieter car with the windows open. Those rails that the automatic seatbelts use make some LOUD noise when the wind gets in them, so... has anyone PLUGGED or REMOVED those rails? Is it possible to close that gap without welding it? I've put tape on it and it sounds much better. I'm hoping that there's a cleaner, err... more professional solution than that. If you have some info please share it.
