Well, it's finally that time. After 26,700 miles it's time to replace the OE RSAs. I've done a little bit of research and finally decided on a tire. I thought about getting summer tires and then when winter comes around, getting winter tires, but I don't have a convenient place to store the unused set (downside to not owning a house I guess). So I'm kinda stuck with getting all seasons. I've decided to go with the Nitto NeoGen ZR after doing my homework. I'll be getting them put on Wednesday morning.

From what I've read, they seem to be a pretty good tire and the tread design looks pretty cool. Anyone have any experience on these tires?

The guy at Discount Tire said the tires on the 17s are an odd size (225/50 f, 235/50 r) and suggested going wider to a more common size. I couldn't remember the sizes he suggested, so I'm just going with the OE size. Are the tires on the 17" wheels really that odd of setup?

Another reason I decided on this tire is that it is designed for cars with negative camber. IIRC, the G/Z has negative camber. I didn't have a feathering issue with the OE tires, but figured this would be a good idea.

I would go with a 245 45 17 on all 4 corners!

Well, scratch all of that. One of the guys at DT called me to make sure I wanted the Nittos and he told me a little about them, that they tend to harden up below 50 degrees. So now I'm going with the similar priced Goodyear Eagle GTs. I'm also going with the wider setup in the rear, so it would be 225/50 f, 245/50 r. He said he's put them on some of his friends' cars and they've liked them particularly in the summer, but in the snow, they don't do too well with 3"+. But I'm not too worried about that.

After typing this post up, I realized that I probably should have put this under the wheel and tire section. My bad.

I asked him about that, not all around, but a 235, 245 setup. He said that if I went wider on the fronts, it would look odd and going with a 245 tire on the rear, it'll be more square with the 8" wide wheel.

I had 245 40 18's on all 4 corners and loved the look.... It looks sweet in the front...

The best set up for a coupe is 245 front and 275 rear... NOw I know your rims can't hold the 275 rear so just put 245 all the way around... then you can rotate them too!

And since you have 17's go with a 245 45 or a 245 50... the 245 45 is a little sportier since they have less side wall...

The 17s are 17x7.5 up front vs 17x8 in the rear. It would be nice to be able to go with the same sized tire all around, could rotate them.

Actually, I think it is a 245/45 that I'm getting on the rear. He said that was a popular size for G/Zs with 17s to go to instead of the 235/50. I've driven past this DT many times and I've seen G/Zs there all the time, so they know what's up with them.

You know me, I'll get pics up when I can. And also knowing me, there will probably be several, definitely more than necessary.

Well, I'm pissed because I got there and they told me the setup I talked about with whoever on Monday wouldn't work and they gave me some BS Michelin tire that I'm not happy with.

Now I'm stuck with them for the next couple of years.

Because I was really frustrated and stupid. It's my fault really. But when the guy said Pilots, I assumed it was going to be the good Pilots because he said they were really good. Well, they turned out to not be the good A/S ones, instead they're touring tires that are also M+S rated.

Here's a question though, when they first put them on, does it take awhile for the tire to complete fit itself to the wheel? The bead of the tire isn't all the way to the edge of the wheel.

Sorry to hear of your tire issue.

I got my replacement OEM Bridgestone Turanza's at the dealer at 47k miles and with 41k miles now on them I'm happy with them.

They saved my a$$ and my G yesterday when traffic came to an unexpected short stop on the Garden State Parkway. I had to slam on my brakes with the first panic stop since owning my G. I stopped just before hitting the vehicle in front. The Audi behind me fortunately had a left shoulder as I was in the left lane. The front fender of the Audi was at my drivers door. The woman thankfully knew how to drive and no accident resulted. Had there been no shoulder my G would probably have been headed to the junk yard?

Don't scimp on brakes or tires. Your life and others depends on both.

I have a 2007 G with sport package and larger 18" wheels on the rear than the front so I could not get the same front and rear. The tires I decided on Were the Goodyear Eagle F1's. I got them on the recommendation of a friend with a Carrera 4, and I am thrilled with them. They have excellent traction both wet and dry, and they are very smooth and quiet on the highway up to 100 plus.

If you bought a wider tire than your previous one, then that appearance might come off a bit - I did the same on my car...started with a 215 on a 7.5" wheel and went to a 235...there is like a little "lip," but that's normal because of the tire widths and the sidewall flex.

HM4M or whatever it is.

The tires are the same size. I'm guessing that after driving around for awhile, the tire will come all the way out to the edge of the rim. What it looks like now is if a skinnier tire was put on, one that doesn't fit.

I know it is strange but some tires look skinner than others...

I went from the R050 to Pilot's and they are the same 225 40 19 and the pilot looks much skinner almost like it is to small!

Over bumps, they're quite good, pretty smooth, not rough. Haven't been able to push them though to see when/how they'll break traction. They're also pretty quiet.

Some time soon I want to see how well they will do when pushed.

They're not that bad...though getting the Pilot Sport A/S Plus would have been much better...

They're definatly an upgrade compared to the RS-A's though....

What I found on a previous car was that the tire the car came with was actually pretty well suited for the car (I think they were Continental 770s or something like that - 1975). One reason for their selection was that they broke traction gradually. When you approached your top speed in a corner they would start scrubbing long before total traction was lost. I found this very handy during this time, few surprises. Another good factor was they maintained this well into their tread life. Some did not like this 'feature' but I found it very usefull.

Buddy,

Take the back to Discount Tire and tell them you don't like them for any reason. DISCOUNT TIRE will take back a tire it you are not satisfied but you don't have a lot of time so do it now.

I am looking at Nitto 555's, General UHP and Kumho SPT's for the back of my G in 255/50/17.

I am currently running Yokohama S Drives 235/50/17 and they are awesome!
