So recently this past week i installed my new headunit, a Clarion Vx400, all works well but im tired of the s*** audio from the stock bose speakers, also they are the old paper style cones too.

In there place im 95% sure as of now i will be getting these http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertain ... KFC-P709PS

Im getting them for a relatively good price so i would go for something even better but i think this will be a huge improvement over the stock bose ones.

In my 06 Hyundai Sonata i have the premium system and they are Infinity speakers and they blow the pathfinder out of the water, the only thing my pathfinder has on it, is the subs i have put it.

Those kenwoods operate at 80watts RMS, which i think the stock ones dont even come close to that number, im thinking 35-45? watts rms, not sure if anyone could confirm what they actually are.

I will then get a 4 channel amp, which i already have one in mind and it will be running each channel at 75w RMS, so good enough for the 80w RMS speakers, then connect the amp rca;s right up to the headunit, and along with the subs have a really good playing loud and clear system.

Then i will have fun and finally tear out all the bose crap, amps, wiring, old speakers etc, and be done with the wiring harnesses and problems with factory speaker systems.

I will probably be mounting the new amp for the door speakers where the bose amp is in the trunk on the left side behind the paneling. And my sub amp is already under the trunk mat in that compartment.

Any thoughts, comments, advice etc. Appreciated.

In for pics of tear down!

Im going to replace the headunit with this:
http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_130A ... 7995&avf=N

then do the tweeter mod to try and clear up the muddiness. I have my civic with a bangin sound system and since this is my DD, I just want it to be loud and clear in the car. Ill keep the bose crap and see if its tolerable. Im thinking with the 8 way EQ on the pioneer, i should be able to adjust everything to my liking.

Yeah when I replaced mine they were completely destroyed, cone had separated from the surround and all sorts of tears.

I remember the last time i took apart my doors was like 6-8 months ago to silcone grease the window tracks, i didnt take too much notice to the speakers but i definetly dont think mine were ripped, torn, or separated.

Does anyone know the RMS watt rating on our stock bose speakers?

I don't know if this will help you guys, but I took pics of the backs and amps of all the Bose speakers from my 2001.5 Pathy:

I kind of don't know which are which, but it would appear that the two front and two back are essentially identical save for orientation, obviously.

I think the lone "2" on the sticker of all the speakers themselves indicate they're 2 ohms.

All my speakers basically looked like this, not torn or anything. You can see I removed the black plastic ring around the speaker to be re-used as speaker adapter brackets for my new speakers. Not ideal, but they work in a pinch.

town thanks for the pics, but i had no luck finding any wattage/rms ratings from the numbers on the items. What kind of speakers did you put in instead of the bose?

These, I think. Not the most ideal I think, but still sounds better than Bose. Should've saved up money instead and bought better speakers and rewired everything instead of hacking up the Bose wiring, but what's done is done. I got this headunit as a gift. My previous one didn't have an Aux input, so this one was a welcome upgrade.

how big of an improvement were they over the bose for you at least? i see they are only 35w RMS but if you say that they sound better than bose then i should be happy with the 80w RMS kenwoods, before i was looking at 140w RMS alpines i think but they got bought out and i can't get them for a good price anymore.

Edit: I should probably include more detail on what i mean by improvment:

Better bass quality and hit than stock?

Clearer Mids/Highs than stock?

Louder playing and clear at high volumes than stock?

Also i presume you arent using any of the stock bose amps? as you took pics with them out, what kind of amp/amps do you have running

Thanks

I'm using the head unit's power to power the four speakers. It is louder than the Bose speakers using an aftermarket head unit + line output converter for sure. The speakers are clearer in general than Bose, though I'd say bass response is roughly equal - if only because door speakers aren't meant to produce all that much bass. A sub would help fill the sound quite a bit in my case.

Wow then the factory speakers must not be much RMS wattage at all, especially if your headunits powering them all, i think with the 80w kenwoods i will put in i will be very happy and it will play loud and clear.

Once again thanks for the pictures and explanation of what you have.

you hate your bose system? I love mine, maybe the Infinitis got a nicer system. I set my bass levels to minus 6, and my treble to +12 on my headunit and subs to max, and the sound system is phenomenal. Crystal clear even at high volumes

both the path and qx4 came with the exact same thing, and yours might not be worn out as much. If you think its phenomenal you haven't heard many systems then, and many people on here will agree with me that the stock boses suck

Kind of like this:

Glad to hear you're stepping it up! The sooner you get rid of every factory audio wire the better. Good luck bro, if you need help hit me up.

esoteric, i already ordered the kenwoods today, and i dont think those kickers come with separate tweeters like the kenwoods, because buying 4 tweeters will definetly raise the price on the budget install im doing, which the kenwoods come with 2 for each pair, and ill be adding 2 in the rear which i wanted to do for a while.

And thanks for the pics empty v, i remember from a long time ago when you put that in i did look at how you mounted the amp where the old bose one was.

Did you also rip out all the old bose wiring, and what kind of speakers did you put in.
