i'm due for my 60k service and was quoted $500 from cerritos infiniti. they also recommended the following additional services: $90 to change the differential fluid, $165 to change drive belts, $120 for throttle body cleaning/service, $120 for fuel injector cleaning/flush.

do these prices sound right (for dealership service)? are there any reputable independent mechanics in the southbay (so cal) to west orange county that charge less?

thanks.

Did you purchase new or used?

If used you may want to consider part of what you mentioned above. If the car runs fine and you keep it garaged, you can inspect the belts yourself. Are they in good shape or do they look worn? Differential fluid could probably wait? I never changed it in my 88 Mazda 929 & sold it with about 225k miles. There is a video on this site showing how to clean the throttle body. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.If nothing is wrong with your vehicle, change oil, oil filter, air filter & cabin filter yourself (see how to do posts on this site) & put the $1k aside in the bank just in case #hit happens.

That's my opinion

WOW...what did the $500 cover???

$120 to service the throttle body AND another $120 to clean the injectors?? Seems a bit excessive!

I also agree with Telcoman about not fixing what ain't broke.

Do you run good gas in your car?? Keep the air filter changed? Oil changed?

My belts did need replacing on my G at 45K, so you might want to look at those. But, I would do it yourself OR get a quote from your NISSAN dealer.Actually, if you're going to get any of it done, I would take it by your NISSAN dealer. Just my opinion.

What is included in the 60k service?

You only need to do what is in the owners manual to keep your warranty if you have extended.

If not....

At 60k if it were my car I'd.

Service transmission (every 30k)Flush and fill coolant inspect hoses replace as neededinspect belt(s) replace as neededreplace spark plugs

If you have never changed the diff fluid leave it alone.

You don't need T-body or fuel injector cleaning. If you really want that buy a bottle of sea foam and run it through a vacume line.

The dealer at which I bought my car quotes the 60,000 mile service at $765 which includes the flusing of all fluids and the fuel induction service. As gwoods said, if you haven't changed the diff fluid yet, don't change it now because it could lead to more problems. It should ideally be flushed every 30,000 miles without any problems. Same thing if you want to flush the transmission fluid. If you really want to change out some of the fluid if it hasn't been flushed/completely changed, you could have the pan dropped and the filter changed and have the fluid topped off accordingly...that usually accounts for about 1/3 of the fluid.

lately i've had problems starting the car. it would die after i turned the engine over... like it couldn't hold the idle. sometimes it took 2-3 times to get it start and maintain the idle or i would give it some gas when i turned it over. the dealer said that was a sign that the throttle body needed service.

also the dealer told me to change the oil around every 3k miles. i've been putting full synthetic oil in my car and thought i could go at least every 7-8k between oil changes (like bmw's etc..) any opinions on that subject?

A car that hunts idle is usually something electronic in the ignition system or a vacuum problem...but yeah I guess that could be dirty injectors or T-body.

You didn't mention in your first the dealership looked at your car and diagnosed the problem. You didn't even mention that the car had a starting and idle problem in your first post. Its hard for any of us to do any better over the Internet then the dealer did with the car there. You got your answer already. If you want a second opinion take it to a different dealership?

6k on an oil change is good for Synthetic.... at 8 k the oil is PROBABLY still good but the filter is probably full. I personally would not go longer then 6 k on a oil change. I run Mobil 1 myself and change it when it looks bad or I'm using anytime before 6k. So far my longest between oil changes has been 3500 miles.

I was just quoted $680.00 yesterday. I looked at the list of items included; I think I will pass. I don't mind paying extra for good service, but 680 for what they are doing looks outrageous.
