I get kicked out of every xbox live game. Most of the time my connection is 3 or 4 bars, and then i get really bad lag, and connection interrupted and then it kicks me out to the lobby. This happens every single time without fail.

My xbox is connected to a wireless signal enhancer which is fed from a router on the other side of the house. My laptop works fine right next to my xbox. I pretty much only play cod4 and cod5.

so,

This is why I don't like wireless. Sure its great for laptops and stuff but I prefer good ol' wires for gaming.

Not long after gears 2 came out, the GF and I would get logged off while were playing campaign. Lucky for us, we used system link to play, but the message stating that we were disconnected always came up. Not sure why it was happening. We're both hardwired so it could have been our ISP. You might try testing it to see if it happens when hardwired. Try a direct connect to the cable modem as well if a wired connection tot he router causes problems. That will at least rule out or confirm if it is your equipment or not...

Mine was bumping me off like that, ended up being my modem was on it's way out. New modem, problem was fixed.

+1 - I had a faulty router that would 'hic-cup' randomly while i was playing games and i would get booted all the time - try hardwiring to your modem to see if the issues still exist, this way you can get a better guess as to what's causing the problem.

Yea! Great idea!!! Let's go play Gears of War 2 on....

...o wait. We can't. GoW2 isn't on PC...

Cut the fanboy crap. If you have a worthwhile comment, make it. Otherwise don't post nonsense. This is about Xboxlive, not PC.

Nah, I just get pissed at the fan boy crap. I don't go around to PS3 threads talking about how xboxlive is better, or PC threads about how computers are too expensive, or to 360 threads about how they all have RRoD's. How hard is it to just talk about the topic without spewing garbage?

You mean connect the xbox to my laptop to connect to live? I tried that and I couldnt even sign on to xbox live. I'll try it again and see what happens.

It seems like the problem is much worse on COD5 than on COD4.

Make sure your internet connection is set up for other devices to connect to the internet through the laptop. Go to control panel and network connections to set up your internet connection.

I dont have the Internet Sharing option listed where it is supposed to be? according to the tutorials i just watched, there should be options in the red box.

PS3 ALL THE WAY !!!!! just kidding man.

happens on our ps3s for me and my roommate. we would get disconnected all the time, or i would get a message saying an ethernet cable was unplugged. then it would reconnect. dont know what it was, but im thinking it was the isp. was thinking the router, but after we ordered a new one, everything just started working. havent had probs since. hope everything works out for the OP

Are you sharing your wireless connection?

What does the xbox tell you when it fails? (ie, no ip, no DNS...etc)

All of the xbox suggested fixes seem to involve DNS.

well first off. when did this strt happening to you? i mean has it been doing that since you ve been on x box live. of did you get on one night and it kicked you out ever since then? its rare to get kicked during a game. especially if your the only one it the match that deos. if some one has a bad connection. that being you. you ll actually lag the entire game for every one else in that match at the same time.so others will actually go out with you, if the game hasnt been stopped already. usually if your kicked it wont tell you. it ll say something like"lost connection to host" or" could not connect to host".

It hasnt always done this. It seems like every one in a while, theres a phase where its acts up. But this time its been for a long time.

I also just got it back from microsoft in january.

is that when it started doing that to you more often. you see. when your xbox is turned on it will automatically sign you in to xbox live. if you have it set up that way. well before it connects you, it will make sure you have a fast enough connection to do so. in other words you will need to have a good enough connection to play online, download, watch clips so on.so if you have bad connection it wont let sign on. next time you get in a room check to see if that room has a good ping. look for things like bars or dots. if you see that room has like one bar or two. that means that that match aint gonna make it to long and you run a big chance of getting kicked. same with yellow or red dots.to answer you about getting your xbox back form microsoft, i doubt your x box itself is slowing your connection on and off. how many gigs you got left on your hard drive?since you do have wireless. try only having your xbox using it . dont have like 2-3 computers running online at the same time. then check to see if it stilll happens.you could also hard wire it. i would like to say its your wireless router that might lag you a little. enough to slow you to lose a good connection to the host. unless you are the host then the whole game would stop.

My buddy is having the same problem as you are and he is hard wired to the router. It's so bad that he thought he needed to go get a new headset because his comms were always broken. My suggestion is to clear your cache by doing HDD Maintenance. here are the steps...

"HEXUS.gaming reports that a cache clear code has been discovered for the Xbox 360 hard drive via the dashboard's system blade. To perform the function, access 'memory' in the system blade, and then highlight the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"

it will clear out all recent gaming updates and hopefully get your connection back on par. What router are you running at present time, my buddy switched from a Linksys over to a Belkin and it completed F'd his connection.
