I'll save the details of how why it got in there, but its in there.

Freeze plug on the intake manifold side above oil filter fell into block. Is it possible to retrieve the plug by removing the water pump, or do I need to pry it thru the plug hole?

Any help please?!?!?

Damn, good luck. Is it steel? If so I recommend shopping around for the baddest magnet-on-a-stick you can find. That always does the trick for me when I lose things in the block (which happens with depressing frequency).

OEM Steelies.... its sitting just below the plug hole. I feel I could pry it up with a shorty screw driver, grab it with needle nose, then wiggle it thru the plug hole. Just don't want to damage the plug walls.

I've been meaning to replace my water pump gasket since it trickles... Hoping to be able to pull it thru that opening

Hells yeah man, give it a shot. Worst case you have to go get a new freeze plug. One won't break the bank. I think you'll be able to get it out without damaging it though. Make sure you drink whilst doing it, so you will be in the proper state to deal with failure in the event that it occurs.

Good luck!

HAHAHA I did this by accident when i was doing my freeze plugs. I bent the trusty old magnet-on-a-stick, hooked the cap on the magnet and pulled her through.

Good luck its like playing a s***ty game of operation

Yea, I wouldn't plan on saving that freeze plug. Magnet on a stick is your best option.

^^^ you said it. Makes me nervous for the other freeze plugs when this one sprung a leak while driving. All others that i can see are dry around the edges, hoping the two on the back of the motor are the same.

Float, do you know if it is possible to pull it out thru the water pump cavity?

This might be the time to pony up the $74 or whatever for a whole new set of freeze plugs. Why risk it when it would be really easy to do right now?

Good luuuck!

I got it out, and it was much easier than expected. Was able to pull it up with my pointer finger and position it to where I could grab it with needle nose pliers and pulled it through.

I bought a set of nine, but only replaced the one. I'll take care of the rest while the car is down for the winter.
