I have a 1996 Nissan Hardbody. I love the truck and drive the ever lovin snot out of it. Last year alone I put on about 45k miles.

Alas though I'm affraid I will need to start making plans to rebuild/replace the engine. I've taken great care of it but 300k+ miles is alot to ask out of any engine and I'll be hitting that mark shortly.

What I have is the 4cyl king cab and its great for driving around town but highway driving is less desireable. My options as far as I can tell are to rebuild my engine, or I could go get a v6 from a doner hardbody and rebuild it, but I have done a bit of looking around and find the sr20det engine quite appealing. I have seen some complete engines w/6 speed trannie for fairly reasonable prices and wanted to get some imput on the subject.

So the question is should I rebuild or swap? and if I swap what is the best option?

Its hard to decide but better now than when I'm on the spot and need my truck fixed and quickly.

The sr20det with the 6 speed is a beast. The rear diff HAS to be swapped out at the same time due to the speed sensor being back there. Not to mention that the one with the 6 speed is from a 99-up silvia, wiring would be a be-otch. It would be easier to get a redtop sr20det and custom wire it in. You will also need a custom driveshaft, custom intercooler, upgraded radiator, custom downpipe and custom exhaust. Just for startersI've thought about doing this myself and looked into it

you should do the vg30tt motor swap and that may make it alittle more fun on the highway
