hey thereI'm not new here, but you wouldn't be able to tell :P

I had a 06 z before, and I had to give it up cuz I got into a **** company that wouldn't pay me, called USQFS and it worked with MARLO between many! them ****ers.anyway.

then I got 240sx 91, n Its got so much problems I dont know about I'm getting tired of it.Even though I have not given up, n still learning I got an awesome job now and I can buy a new z.

THE POINT IS

I'm trying to figure out what would be better to buy.if you had to chose between 03, 04, and 05, what would you get?

motor wise, are there any differences that should I get concerned about?

I'm going to be drifting the car, and heavily modify it to get 500hp at least. (with time)

I'm also planning to buy an rb26 or a good engine that wouldn't take away the car's harmony, weight balance and so on.

well thanks for whatever input you got!

the 03-04 287 hp 05-06 300hp and 07-08 306hp i would keep the vq its a great starting block just build and turbo or supercharge it tt could bring it up near the 800hp

As far as the cars, the 03-04 is fine especially if your plan is to upgrade for power. The 03 - 04 will cost you less to buy because its older, thus putting you $$$$$ closer to your goal. The 03-04 has 287 hp and 274 ft/lbs, the 05-06 has 300hp and 260ft/lbs, some that have driven both say the earlier models seem to be more aggressive through all the gears and all around more fun to drive compared to the 05-06. The 03's and early 04's had some issues that were solved via recall, so you would be pretty unlikely to find one with these issues. Also i do believe a carfax report would list any recalls. 2004.5's were free of the issues the earlier models had. Be sure to get a performance model or up, for the fact they have the LSD. Well you probably plan on adding an LSD since you are building a drift car so i guess a base model would do. As far as adding HP's with TT's, you will not see 800hp on the stock internals. I believe R350Zz33 is refering to the APS twin turbo kit that makes 800hp but it is required to have a built motor to handle that kit. You could build over 400whp with a single turbo kit or twins, easily on stock internals. Might even be able to see 500whp on stock internals (never heard anything but i am willing to try if i can do it without too much risk and some built heads). Hopefully i helped shed some light.

I stated that he should build the motor iwould not goover 400 with stock internals just keep it low and slowly build up or just save up and do it all at once u could even keep the 240 and make that a drift car

Both the 350Z and G35 have oil consumption problems. Nissan has issued a TSB and you can get the engine replaced under warranty. Unfortunately the replacement engines had the same problems.

The 03-04 350Z had the least engine problems, but more stuff like uneven tread wear, etc.

The 05-06 350zs used the VQ35DEHR engine, which seems prone to burning excessive oil.

Engine modifications would void the warranty.

I wasn't impressed with the 350z or G35.

Rmezz pretty much somed it up. It comes down to how much do you want to pay and how many miles. With the 03's you can put in test pipes with out buying a similater program. Any year 350Z is a good one.

In addition to what rmezz said, the 03 and 04 models had slightly smaller brakes, and the 05+ were upped in diameter size... cant recall how much.

wow these details sure help make ones mind up.I appreciate this.I'm gonna be modding the car, but before I'm going to check what problems are the worse, and whats gonna be convenient.up to now I think I'm going for 2004 model.

Because I'm aware of there being a few problems, but I'd prefer that these problems are easily gone by upgrading parts, which is the ending goal either way. ^^you see what I mean?

u need to check ur facts im 16 and i know more about the z then u bro come on the is no such thing as a vq35dehr and engine mods do not void the warranty we are protected by a law that states the only way they can void ur warranty is to prove that the mod is the direct cause of the malfunction. the only thing ur right abot is the oil that the 05-06 drank. u may not be impressed jdubs because u dont have the right info do some research and then open ur mouth

the 05 and 06 had the vq35de revup engine that has a higher rpm range but lower torque...300 bhp/ 260 lb/ft. And the vq35hr from the 07 and 08 has twin intakes and 306 bhp!
