That company is just about out of it unless they can get some money to pay off their debt.
I have it but not so eager to sign up for 1 more year until the dust settles.
Do you trust the company now? If the company fails, would it make any real difference if you have a 1 year subscription or a 5 year subscription? If they change their lineup in such a way as to deliver less than they promised it seems to me you can then back out of the longer subscription while still in it.
The fact is I think they may well be in trouble, however so is basically everyone else and in this field they are pretty much the only option for all of the features such as coverage areas.
To me this does represent an issue with the built in systems and that is while you don't have to subscribe, you don't have options for somehow incorporating a replacement service in an easy fashion.
For example if you have some of the aftermarket systems you can transparently add new technologies as they become available.
Again I am a big fan of a computer in a car which is what is used to integrate all of this. Properly designed you could replace it just like you do in your home if the need to upgrade the entire system exist.
What happens 10 years from now if you still own a 2008 with Navigation? My guess is navigation itself will exist, location independant entertainment systems will exist and so on. What may not exist is what we have now and it probably would not be cost effective for Nissan to provide an upgrade path. On the other hand with a properly designed computer system, a display that could be replaced with an upgrade, etc. you could easily just gut what is in there and replace without concerns such as affecting other systems present. In industrial applications you have what is referred to as distributed control systems. You can replace parts and all of it without replacing the hardware being controlled. Perry
