I know we've been over this many times but honestly, if a catback has mendrel bends and a decent muffler how bad can it be? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33630 What do youguys think? To me it's as inexspensive as getting a custom catback made.

Here's a few pointers:

1) Stamped-steel flanges are garbage.

2) 15-20 hp gains? PLEASE. That's just insulting. Don't buy frmo someone who insults your intelligence.

3) Silencers suck. Dyno gains are recorded w/o the silencer. Stick it back in, and lose all your gains. What's the point of a free-flowing exhaust if it has to exit through a 1.5" hole?

4) You said "decent muffler" - That's NOT a "decent muffler". That muffler packing will likely degrade (it's not supported by stainless mesh) and settle to the bottom of the canister. Then you'll be farting all over town, wishing you'd spent another $200.

5) Nine negative feedbacks in the past month?

I'm certainly not saying "buy my system". But there's good stuff out there, and you'll respect yourself more in the morning. :)

Yeah I was just wondering. I found a JIC magic titanium canister for cheap and I'm going to get a custom catback made. Thanks for the feedback. Also I was wondering, are resonators better for flow and sound? When I got my fart can put on the dude was like I can take the resonators off and it'll sound better.

Resonators > silencers.

I always recommend a resonator to my customers. However, yours will NOT be tuned to the system, so you may or may not get a nice sound.

Canister design, piping layout and resonator diameter and length are all critical.

Whoever "the dude" is, didn't know what he was talking about. :(

p.s. Be VERY sure you ask yourself why you want a specific muffler.

can you please help me out.

right now i have a hotshot header,a catco cat, and what I'm guessing is a stainless steel exhaust w/ some magnaflow muffler. Down low it sounds kind of low, but when you get up top (4,000+ rpms) it gets really really raspy.

now would a resonator help with the raspyness? Or is it a muffler problem?

Magnaflow muffler is probably not to blame... I'd say the culprit is the cat or the lack of a resonator.

Building hodge-podge systems without regard for how the various components will work together is a gamble - Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you wind up with a liveable system, and someimes you just get hosed.

Adding a resonator would DEFINITELY help.

i have a resonator and my system sounds great :)

and yes, the way sound waves work, if they dont combine to make destructive interferance (cancel out) then it wont sound very nice

the magnaflows get real loud at w.o.t.

i heard that people with open piping have a real raspy honda sound, thats why i got the resonator. no probs here, sounds really good.

what if you just cut the muffler off and let it wail from your cat back?

The key, however, is an exhaust that fits... lol...

Anyways, resonator will not change flow at all if it is a good one (straight through Magnaflow, anyone?). Avoid glasspack and make sure you have a ss mesh to hold the absorbing material in place and you're good, otherwise it's going to sound like a hornets' nest....
