So, in a gesture of *extreme* kindness my father has said that he'd like to help me out financially in getting some body work done on my car.

I've got one minor dent on the front fender (looks like someone leaned their fat *** up against it and pushed it in...there's a pencil point dimple where the paint is cracking), a few minor dings from stones and one very long scratch on the driver side door.

Other than that, there are the normal swirl marks you'd see on most 10 year old cars.

Question: I know the door will have to be repainted, but considering the age of the car and the fact that it's rust free and in otherwise pretty good condition, would you have someone completely repaint the car?

I'd be looking to keep it the same color and wouldn't need the engine bay repainted (it looks fine). I'd prefer not to do my own prep work, though it would be nice to ditch that stupid black stripe that runs along the side and back of the car.

Very roughly, what do you think I can expect to pay at a decent body shop for a nice paint job? I'm not talking show car quality here, just something that looks nice and will last. Something above Maaco but below show car. I am, after all, actually going to be driving this car on the road.

Sorry for the vague question. I'm just trying to avoid my jaw dropping to the ground when I start getting estimates.

BTW, I actually found a spoiler I like! I'm not an old fart after all. It's a nice, low key 3 piece by GP Sports. Not sure of quality or fitment, but it looks good, IMO. Might consider having that done at the same time as paint if the cost of the body work doesn't kill me.

nothing like a nice fresh glossy paint job...

having original paint probably won't mean much for value on these cars, especilly if the paint kinda sucks anyway.

I'd mostly like to keep it the original color because a) I like red and b) I don't want my engine bay to be a different color than the rest of the car.

I'd imagine it would cost more to paint it some unusual BMW, Acura, etc. red than the plain old factory Nissan color.

Hey BadMojo, sorry to go offtopic but where are you ordering that spoiler from? I haven't found any for sale online, and I think its one of the cleanest spoilers around. Thanks!

Well, I haven't really gotten that far. I won't have the $$$ for body work until Spring and I just saw that spoiler today. I don't know who has it. Maybe someone can post something in the advertisers forum and see if any of them can get it.

I couldn't even find a homepage for GP Sports that actually works.

I do really like that spoiler. IMO, it's one of the few that doesn't ruin the lines of an S13 fastback.

absolutely nothing wrong with keeping the stock code, I'm just saying a fresh non faded no orange peel paintjob always looks nice, regardless the color (except pastels, I ****in' hate those...).

Hey, our paint work starts at 900 and up. That last one we did was 3k on a navigator but we quoted an acura at 1300k. Thats with stripping it and getting all the dings out.

Good idea on keeping the same color, that way the shop wont have to paint the door jams and interior pieces.

Red color is also more expensive than all the rest. Not sure why but it just cost more.

Cool. Yeah, I wanted to keep the job as simple as possible. I don't want interior stuff, engine bay, etc. to have to be painted. Do you work at a chain shop or a private body shop? Also, what kind of paint do you guys use?

If the price is right, I might end up doing that GP Sports wing I like and a bumper that would be more conducive to a FMIC. Hell, since my dad offered to pay for it...why not?
