I've been looking into a new car for this summer and the 240 looks pretty nice. I've had a prelude before and really enjoyed that car but i want something a little quicker/more responsive. I also looked into gsx's but those seem to be plagued with reliability issues (i'm sure partly because of the american influence)

Anyways, i'll probably have about 13k to spend and I was thinking of a low milage 95-98 240sx and putting a ka24 turbo on it this summer. I hear you can get pretty good results with low boost on stock internals, would be a good start for someone that doesn't know a lot like me, but has some friends that could help me with that. Or maybe there's beter mods to spend the money on?

So i'm just looking for some opinions/suggestions, and if this is a good route what are some good/inexpensive turbo kits.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

if i were to get a 96-98 240sx and I have 13k so spend, Id get a Greddy turbo kit with FMIC. THen upgrade your suspension, get better brakes. After all that you can still spend 6g's on rims, body kit, seats...and send a couple hundred bucks to me ;)

You might save money by swapping in an SR instead of rebuilding the KA24 for turbo.

depends on how much miles on the motor. he could even turbo that ka, get another ka on the side and build that. do suspension work and he's in there like swim wear. hehe

Is there a real advantage to dropping say a sr20det though as apposed to just sticking with the ka24. Of course the sr is allready turbo ready and built for that, but i figured installing a turbo kit was gonna be a lot easier then a drop i don't know much about. Also in the long run wont the extra .4 liters help too?

Please lets not.

If you want to turbo the KA, more power to you, just research...ALOT. There are alot of things that could go wrong if you just dive head first into a project, and I'm not just talking about building a ka-t.

I got into like a 2 hour argument with some random dude online on AIM about SR vs. KA. I hate it.. We all need to agree that each has it's advantige.

240n00b, you could get a higher mileage 240 for less and put an SR in it and you will probably save money. But look into both, you can search for one of the 100s of KA vs. SR topics we've had.

My whole take on this (considering only money in order to avoid any KA vs. SR debate) is that a turbo kit for the KA costs about the same as a low priced SR. However, to build a KA right you will have to replace internals to lower the comp and the like. So looking at only price I think the SR is your best bet.

Thanks for all the help. I've been doing more research and the sr engine does look nice. Does anyone have some links to good walk-throughs on this swap so i can really see what i'm getting myself into? Oh and also, is there is a big difference in installing the s15 as apposed to an s14 blacktop?

Thanks.

Mine is...the SR is alot harder to come by than the KA. If you mess up big time and end up blowing up your block, a kade can be found from anywhere from 50-400 dollars.

So It looks like you have to decide on long term vs. short term costs. That, or don't blow up your motor. :)

lol yep. Thats why I'm going Ka-t. Alot easier to recover from something going horribly wrong.
