1995 max-

all the other maximas that i have driven seem to have a stronger feeling trans.

the trans doesnt slip, but it engages softly .

i also hate the way the trans starts in second gear if you do not come to a complete stop, and roll into the throttle.

the standing start accel doesnt feel nearly as positive as the 01 i drove recently. however, i like the 4 gen overall over the 5th gen.

what i am getting at- would the auto from a 5th gen I30 [want the lsd] be compatible with the 4th gen TCU, OR would the 5th gen computer plug into the 4th gen harness? will the axles be compatible, or would i need the 5th gen axles?

BTW, i work in a trans shop, and theres nothing wrong with the unit, its just old [1995 with 95k miles].

also, theres little internal difference between the two transmissions.

it is the valve body and TCU that have to be the biggest difference.

you should try swapping in the TCU from an earlier one... I think theyre the same trans, nad theyre probably compatible.

nice. id rather toss in a used 01 trans than go for a rebuild.

but, unless im wrong, it looks like only the 5 speeds got the LSD.

I believe that the 00-01 transmission will work without changing anything. I'll keep looking into that.

All I30T's came with LSD, and there are autos available.

i was digging through inventory and i noticed the plugs are the same, its good to know that the pin outs are the same also.

i was under the impression that all I30's came with the lsd, so its just the t's.

i think ive ruled the lsd out. i dont want to have to carry a full size spare.

do the 00-01 trans have a different valve body, or was the difference due to age/my imagination?

the biggest concern is that my trans does a "second gear engage, pause, downshift to first" if i dont come to a complete stop.

the 01 went right into first with half throttle from a 3-5 mph roll, and was overall more agressive with the shifts.

the rolling circumference must be right.

im almost certain that my spare is smaller than the normal tire.

the vlsd would certainly be damaged by driving with mismatched size tires for any considerable distance.

and im sure not going to do a double tire change for a front flat.

i havent checked, but i would bet that all I30t's have a full size spare.

next time im working on the car, i have to take out the spare, and try one of the wheels. that will settle it for me.
