Hey group, I'm a new member from Toronto Ontario Canada. I've always been interested in getting gears 4.083 to replace the stock 3.5's. The company claims they are the best mod for the buck ($500) approx.

Anyone have these? They claim to pull through the gears at a 10% faster rate? Like adding 75hp, I calculate 10% on say 300hp is more like 30hp!

Regards, Dion

Sup... I believe you are talking about the final drive.

final drives do not add hp it just makes the gears shorter and make you accelerate faster. you will lose gas milage and your top speed .

Ya I would assume you are correct, I was looking at the gears at 350zmotorsports.com

They are 4.083 gears available on that site not the 3.9's in the post you referred me to? I talked to the shop owner and he says they aren't a popular mod, but if done they pull like a sun of a gun?

Thanks for referring me to that post........

That would be me...

We have installed alot of these gears, both the 3.9 Central 20 and the 4.083 Nissan gears.

By far, these are the best bang for your buck. While they do nothing to add power, it improves your acceleration to the "feel of" 75 HP.

Also, lining up cars identically modded the car with gears will do 3 car lengths on the non geared car in a 1/4.

Will your car accelerate faster, yeah. But I think the 350z jumps out of 1st gear range quickly as is, if it goes through it even faster you won't even use 1st gear. Also you will lose top speed, which may not be an issue for you....I after all do not know your plans for this vehicle. And you will also lose gas mileage, because your engine is going to have to run at higher rpms to sustain the same speed it used to.

So overall what you have to ask yourself if the goals you have for this car can use the gear change.

losing top speed and mileage for quicker acceleration.

Hmm...

10% less in 1st gear is nothing. This is not an argument to make a sale, it is just something I am sick of reading.

As far as mileage goes, the difference we have seen in 15 installs is 2-3 mpg avg. Nothing to sneeze at, but no strong argument against either.

Top speed is another silly argument. Last car we did ran 161 mph before and 156 after. Hopefully you wont mind too much.

I don’t know much about final drives but given the change to a 4.083 requires the engine to be a higher RPM range for what it seems like is pretty much everything would this end up being more damaging to the engine, or at least cause the engine to have more serious problems sooner than it normally would?

Also AZ350Z since you said you have installed a lot of these gears, what does an average installation run as far as cost goes?

Quicker acceleration really doesnt hurt the engine...as always, its up to the driver how hard they drive the car.

I have a diff. specialist who knows this install very well, so we charge a total of 3 hours to drop the diff, install gears and re-install.

To some this may be true. And if that is there choice, totally up to them. But to me 10% is too much, because my Z flies through first gear as it is. I don't know if its because I put in the lightweight flywheel, but my Z is literally in 1st gear for about 1 second when I floor it lol.
