Yeah, we all knew it was coming, but the speculation is over as CliffyB and Epic announced Gears of War 2. The game is planned to hit shelves in November.

Crikey. You are getting slow in your old age Sean. I was going to post a thread on it but the first Gears wasn't so impressive IMO. Single play and Coop was fine but the online multiplayer was fugging horrible. Host had such a HUGE advantage over everyone else it wasn't even funny. Too many times I've been sniped by a freaking shotgun just because the guy had host. I got so fed up with crap like that that I traded in GoW for gas money one week. Best gaming decision I've ever made.

I'm only 2 years older than you

As far as I can see, this is new news. All the reports about GoW2 being OFFICIALLY announced were dated from today. And the video was only released today. Host has a huge advantage in any game without dedicated servers. I never really played GoW a whole lot online, but the game was still incredible. Hopefully they wont screw it up.

I don't have a problem with host having a slight advantage so long as it doesn't make his weapons more powerful, accurate, etc. I can deal with them having a faster reaction time, just not a blatant advantage. Host is less powerful in other games.

There is no way the host's guns are more accurate or powerful, thats all in your head. It probably seems like it since you arent the host and you're getting lagged data. Everything you see has already happened for the host. It's the same way in CoD4. Granted, it is worse in some games than it is in others, but the only real advantage is in the latency. In order for the host to be more powerful and accurate, that would have to be written into the game. I very seriously doubt it is.

It's definitely the case man. I dunno how else to explain it. Also, another annoying as flip problem was when you'd down someone in a gametype where they could revive themselves or a teammate could revive them, on the animation where they were getting up, they are completely invulnerable to any form of damage. Which is annoying as f*** when you go to chainsaw or curb stomp them, if you start the chainsaw motion while they are getting up, you'll have to continue the animation, but it doesn't kill them, so they get up and kill you instead. WTF? That's a bigtime failure in design.

I know what you are saying about the host thing, but its just not the case. If it wasn't something to do with the netcode it would have been fixed way before now. It definitely does have to do with the latency and nothing more. If the host actually did do more damage and was more accurate and they didn't tell you about it, I dont think as many people would play the game.

I know what you mean about the revival animation, that was a big oversight. I never played the game online much, but I was able to get back on my feet and kill the people that were taunting me a few times. I've seen this sort of thing happen in other games too so it must be a fairly common problem in developing games. They need to figure it out soon though.

I'm not saying GoW was the perfect game, not even close. It's not on my top three 360 games, probably not even top 5. But it was fun whenever I played it and looked amazing with no framerate chops, so that makes it a good game to me.

LOL. Last time I check no one on my friends list is playing GOW. It's likely that the latency would make it seem like they picked my head off when it was popped out for a split second but either way it was a bigger issue in Gears than in other games.

The game is a year and a half old, of course many people arent playing it online now. My point is that it was the first game that almost EVERYONE who had a 360 bought and played online. That wouldn't have continued for months if the host had some sort of unnatural advantage over the rest of the players. Maybe the issue IS bigger in GoW than other games, maybe its just more apparent.

Awhile ago i read that the problem wasn't the host doing more damage but the other players would have some of their bullets lost in space due to lag which is why they don't kill as fast as the host. It happens in cod4 with sniper rifles and some other games but not even 1/2 as much as gow for whatever reason?

It's all in the netcode. GoW wasn't coded the worst for online play but it was FAR from the best. Dropped packets were fairly common, and that means the host is missing some information about what you are doing. Some bullets dont register, and sometimes you are left out in the open when you really ran behind a wall. The problem is better with a good host but exacerbated with a bad one.

The problem is already bad with Gears of War's horrid networking. The host sucking just makes the s*** stink worse. Either way. It's still s***.

Well, I'm sure it will be better in this one. Hopefully there will be more story as well, they sorta hinted at some stuff but never explained any of it in the first game. I'll be watching for more info on this one.

Single-play/coop was a blast! I just hope it is a bit longer this time around.

I'll be on in a bit. Need to take care of something first. The bottom half of my body has been naughty, and it needs to be punished.

I have to admit that the trailer is pretty damn awesome. It's got me excited about GoW again.

That guy really needs to take a public speaking class, but that stuff he showed was pretty cool. Nothing that's never been done before, but perfectly adapted for the UT3 engine.
