hi all!

i'm really pissed, because nobody can't tell me how much CRANK, not WHPpower stock 93, ca18det, EU version S13 200sx can handle...

the brits say max 300-350bhp, ameros say 500-ish no problem, some swedish boys runs 450bhp easy...

the whole project depends on that figure, i'm lost please help!!!!!!!!!!

thx, and sorry for crappy language

cheers, Simon

It all depends on a bunch of variables such as engine condition, type of turbo, size of injectors being used, mopst importantly type of engine management because that 8-bit ecu will not be the answer in stock form. I'm pretty sure with some really good tuning on a well-eprommed ecu or a standalone and decent condition engine, you can do up and around 500whp. Don't forget camshafts because you will need these as well to help the engine breathe up-top.

Boosty boy, i thought he was talking about the transmission strength.(Gearbox.) Heres my answer on that.

Ive seen 363whp on a ca, track car, (ogura clutch, jun lightweight flywheel), so I guesstimate its a 420 crank hp car. I believe the guy had a gt2871r with the .86 a/r. Stock transmission. Its also how you treat your transmission.

I would think about it as1), are you going to powershift, 2)are you going to dump the clutch really high, and 3)how hard are you going to be slamming gears as well as how high in the rpm's are you gona shift at.

dont forget miles on the transmission and fluid type.

All of these could be factors on when it breaks.... if it breaks.

I wouldn't be too worried about the box holding up. If it's new or freshened up, You'll be fine. There are pleny of high HP S13/S14 chassis running around the world on stock box's. I intend on runnin in approx 350hp through mine and don't have an inkling of a concern about it's strenght.

The Brit's can't tune like Americans can. JK!!! The Brit's have got some badass CA's over there. I don't know why this would be, but maybe the different gearing that they run over there makes for a weaker box? Just a thought...

I'm one of the brits

My car is running 367 rwhp (428.8 fwhp) and in the first 5 months I had the car on the road I broke 2 CA boxes(s13) and 2 SR boxes(s14). I now have an OS Giken 5 gear set and have had no problems since.

My car does get abused every time I drive it though

Well I'm at a loss. I don't know what to say I guess. I don't have any personal experience with a 425fwhp CA so I guess I'd have to agree with experience. I just didn't think that all the big HP SR's were running special box's.

~£1940 ($3450) plus fitting. That was from a brit supplier. SPL are much cheaper but I needed the box sorted quickly

There's a bunch of 500+hp SR's and KA's running around on the stock trannies. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. Besides, replacement trannies are everywhere for like $50.

I've had some spectaculor failures 3rd gear (the weakest point) only had a few teeth left on the last one

Although you can pick the boxes up cheap enough, there is all the hasstle of swapping them over . Fine if you only go through one or two in a year but I was breaking one every couple of weeks

couldnt you just disassemble the gearbox and have the gears themselves shot peened and/or cryo-treated? i would think that might be enough to keep it from breaking. for the price it would be worth a try. also, doesnt nissan motorsports make a gearset for the s13 transmission?

and for a little over $3500 im sure you could wrangle up a hollinger 6spd sequential. i forget who had one for the s13, i think it was veilside or top secret or something. damn....for that much you could have a machine shop make you a set out of solid gold!

I would actually consider cryo treating. Maybe in addition to the shot peening. Check it out, it's a very neat process. It makes the stuff much harder.

Jez Horsham had his s13 gearset shot peened and cryo'd lasted quite a while @400+. He now has the OS Giken 3 gear set.
