alright guys, what kind of gearbox's are you big horsepower CA guys running? from research the stock rwd ca box found in the s13's wont take much over 300bhp, after heavy launches and alot of abuse they give up. :frown: some people do custom jobs and run the 300zx box or splash out and get a os giken setup, was just wondering what others are running and if theres a cheaper option.
cheers

They break at 300hp? Since when? Maybe too many people who don't know how to drive have fancy big boost motors these days, but back in the day I'm pretty sure that wasn't an issue with SR/CA or KA-T until some really ludicrous power numbers.

Sure, if you're some kind of D1GP competitor you'd need beefier components - but the same could be said about the entire car. Normal driving, even normal racing should be fine at that power level.

The UK and German guys say it's a problem around that horsepower area. But I think some of it has to do with how they're driven. Drag race launches and sustained high speeds (the Autobahn) are about the 2 hardest things on transmissions, of which they do a lot of both.

You don't hear about issues here in the US unless it's a dedicated drag/drift/race car.

I would not worry much before you break the 400whp area, in a street driven car that is.
These gearboxes are pretty good, but they tend to break over 400 whp.
In my opinion your best options are RB25 or z32 gearboxes, i prefer the z32 due to it being really cheap for at new one.

or you can go with OEM gearbox, with oil cooler, and some mods to prevent oil problems in acceleration/braking moments.

You can modify the center plate (weld some holes) too.

Or go to a Z32 gearbox.

It depends of your budget.
